This volume of 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection may have been released under Steve Winwood's name, but that's slightly misleading. True, he does sing lead on all these songs, but there are no solo recordings here -- just Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, and Blind Faith numbers. In that sense, it's actually a welcome compilation, since it's the first of its kind. True, this isn't definitive, but it has all the major songs here -- "Gimme Some Lovin'," "I'm a Man," "Paper Sun," "Dear Mr. Fantasy," "Pearly Queen," "Can't Find My Way Home," "John Barleycorn," "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" -- that will make it a good choice for casual fans looking to supplement a solo recordings collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Raven's 2002 two-fer reissue of Glen Campbell's 1975 album Rhinestone Cowboy and 1976's Bloodline is given three bonus tracks and billed as "The Lambert & Potter Sessions 1975-1976," since these two albums were produced (and occasionally written) by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter and have a distinctive sound unlike many other records in Campbell's catalog. It's not a coincidence that Campbell began working with Lambert and Potter after reuniting with Jimmy Webb for the understated Reunion, since this is a logical step forward from Webb's symphonic, intricate compositions. This is a 2003 album by yet another reincarnation of Foghat, recorded a few years after the death of Lonesome Dave Peverett, the band's main claim to fame and sole source of originality. The only original members are bassist Tony Stevens and drummer Roger Earl, and let's face it, Foghat was never known for its magnificent, driving rhythm section. The creative core of this album is singer/rhythm guitarist Charlie Huhn, a journeyman best known for a few years with Ted Nugent, and lead guitarist/producer Bryan Bassett, whose biggest career splash happened in the mid-'70s when he was the second guitarist in Wild Cherry. Family Joules sounds pretty much exactly how one would expect from a pedigree like that: refried boogie jams with repetitive guitar riffs and titles like "Sex with the Ex" and "I'm a Rock 'N Roller."
