Look forward to spotting the band's new album, Horror Show, in European stores on June 25th and in US shops on June 26th. Horror Show is a concept album based on many infamous monsters. Drawing from legend, literature, film, and perhaps even real life. A cover of Iron Maiden's Transylvania was recorded as well, which will be included on a limited edition first pressing of the album on a bonus disc that also contains an exclusive interview with Jon Schaffer and a cover of Iron Maiden's Transylvania! The team of Travis Smith and Danny Miki once again created the artwork for the album which turned out amazing! 2001 release. Horror Show Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A great record of Iced Earth As a fan of Iced Earth, I have to admit that I'd expected a little more of Iced Earth. But when I've listened this record a couple of times I enjoy it really. I've recommend Dragon's Child. Dont' miss the cover of Iron Maiden "Transilvania" on the second CD. Good themed album with some new sounds Iced Earth produces an album around a theme: horror characters. Most are named or partially named in the song titles. There are some female voices and even some strings here and there (particularly on the great end track "The Phantom Opera Ghost"), but the real highlight for me was their cover of Iron Maiden's instrumental "Transylvania". The drums are a bit too heavy for my taste (I prefer the cleaner, snare-based sound of the group's earlier albums), but this is enjoyable metal with a cool theme. Recommended. GOOD, BUT NOT THE BEST It's a good album in my opinion, but I expected more. I think that the last 2 albums are better than this one. There's one song worth to mention as a masterpiece, "Damien" , it's an amazing song, one of my all time favorites from Schafer and company. It's not their best album but worth to buy it. So, go get it ! Submitted by a reviewer (Tegucigalpa, FM, Honduras) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Power metal at its best! I have been a longstanding fan of Iced Earth over a number of years now. I was very fortunate to witness the band playing live in London about 4 years ago on the "Horror Show" tour(only their second tour to those shores at the time) and what an awesome gig it was. There was no support act and the band played a blinding set for approximately 2 hours, barely taking a breather and delivering 200% to the fans.
Matthew Barlow (vocalist) has a remarkable voice, very deep and rich, but at the same time can reach those high notes with relative ease. It was a pity he left the band at the pinnacle of their career; however, I believe his departure was due to an “inner-calling” to join a law enforcement agency after the tragic events of 9/11. Jon Schaffer (guitarist) is one man that can belt out the riffs and on “Horror Show”, he delivers with such technical precision. The song writing is superb, thanks to Schaffer who can pen some amazing music as well as lyrics, and for this album the theme is based along the lines of all the old cult horror films, hence the song titles. A mention must be made about, Richard Christie, the drummer who in my opinion is one of the finest drummers of this genre and deserves so much more recognition. The album was recorded at the legendary Morrisound studios and as usual, the overall production is stunning. With each Iced Earth album released, they seem to lift their game somewhat and have to be regarded as one of the premier power metal bands of the time.

Makes You Miss Matt Barlow The last song on this album, Phantom Opera Ghost, might be the most technically astounding and mindblowing Iced Earth song in existence. Every element of this song is flawless and the contrasting male and female vocals leave nothing to be desired. This album is probably worth buying just for this song but there are some other winners. Dracula, Dragon Child and Wolf are all sick as well. This album was the last done with lead singer Matt Barlow. In my opinion, the band will never be the same without him, he fit their style so well. Hopefully the Ripper can come through in Iced Earth's upcoming album and surprise us all. Submitted by Dan (Kentville, NS, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
