Marilyn Horne - Bach, Handel, Wagner, Berlioz, Berg, Et Al Classical Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Repertoire across the spectrum from Mighty Marilyn! I ask you, where else are you going to find a two disc rectial from a spectacular singer like Marilyn Horne at this price? An amazing reach across musical styles, composers, and genres, from Handel to Massenet, Berlioz and Berg, and the entire Immolation Scene from "Gotterdammerung" thrown in for good measure! Although Horne never sang Brunnhilde in the house, if you can't believe she might not have acquitted herself admirably, just listen to her reading of the final scene. I am delighted to see this on CD--I would've bought the whole thing just for the Wagner rarity. I have used that at parties playing "guess the singer" for years, and I've never had anybody get it from the first bars ... and sometimes not at all! I highly recommend this unusual collection from a truly great American opera singer ... Wagner aside, her ornamentation in Handel and Rossini is rock solid. What a treat ... after all these years, I remain in deepest awe of the great Marilyn Horne. Submitted by operaguy (Birmingham, AL USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Marilyn Horne - Bach, Handel, Wagner, Berlioz, Berg, Et Al
$6.79 Anderson conducts 47 of his own compositions on this recording. The performances were originally released on Decca LPs.
Collection is a generous, double-disc set that features 47 of Leroy Anderson's finest moments, including such milestones as "Blue Tango," "Sleigh Ride," and "Syncopated Clock." As a matter of fact, the compilation comes close to being definitive, since it effectively traces Anderson's musical development, and features his best (and best-known) tunes. The result is both an effective introduction and a fascinating retrospective of a gifted easy listening/classical-pop composer. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Anderson's best songs appear on this double disc set, including "Sleigh Ride," "Blue Tango," "Syncopated Clock," and "Forgotten Dreams." ~ Kenneth M. Cassidy
