| | DJ Brett Henrichsen White Party 2001 CD DJ Brett Henrichsen Discography of CDs
This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Brett Henrichsen.
Of the increasing number of Hi-NRG-style mix albums surfacing in the early 2000s, Brett Henrichsen's White Party 2001 deserves notice. Though not a stunning mix by any means, Henrichsen's performance does indeed capture the essence of the "white party" scene, as he chooses tracks with a heavy emphasis on diva vocals, sensuous themes, and high bpms. It's the sort of mix that you sweat to rather than listen to, particularly since the epic track lengths don't exactly offer much excitement in terms of mixing skills. Still, Henrichsen is merely representing his affiliated scene, so if you're not a fan of the Hi-NRG sound, then it's best to avoid this since it's nothing spectacular but rather standard at best. ~ Jason Birchmeier

$6.75 This 1965 compilation is the perfect introduction to the soulful pop of Sam Cooke. It contains all of his best-loved songs in their original versions and represents the wide variety of moods the man conjured with his music. His unique vocal style combined the smooth, tasteful pop approach of Nat King Cole with a grittier, more emotive soul sound.

White Party 2001 CD music
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration of all the strange sensuality that comes out at night.

White Party 2001 music CDs
$23.29 This non-stop mix from DJs Dave Seaman and Phil K. features music from Andy Page, Dark Globe, Quis, Polanski, Luke Chable, Jeff Bennett, Habersham, Infusion, Born Too Slow, and many others.
DJ Dave Seaman's new Therapy company acts as a party host, DJ agency, and record label, with Therapy Sessions being their first major release. There are two distinct mixes here, one that goes for filling the floor and one that goes for freeing the mind. Seaman goes for the slick and upbeat with a heavy dose of tribal. If it wasn't for the lack of wailing divas and the extra helping of dark, rolling bass, Seaman's set is so outgoing it could be mistaken for one by Louie DeVito on a more moody night. Things ramp up smoothly to a stomping finish, but pay close attention to Ernest Saint Laurent's "Do Ya Dub" and its shuffling electro meets handclap disco beat. Taking over on the second disc -- apparently a place where other up-and-coming DJs will be featured in future editions of Therapy Sessions -- newcomer Phil K. starts off abstract, gets spacy, and then lays down some seriously funky breaks. The DJ is in no hurry to get to the beat, but club ...
