| | Mors Syphilitica Feather And Fate CD Mors Syphilitica Discography of CDs
Mors Syphilitica is the lushly orchestrated project of husband and wife team Eric and Lisa Hammer. Feather and Fate is their third album since 1986, so they can't be accused of hurrying things. As gothic as Kenneth Anger's early cinema, or the films of F.W. Murnau, Feather and Fate is at once contemporary and timeless. Utilizing elements from the early, raw aspect of the Cocteau Twins, Eastern European folk music, classical lieder, and the darkwave gothic rock of the Cure and Gene Loves Jezebel, Mors Syphilitica carries the listener into a soundworld at once strangely foreign and somehow strikingly familiar. Eric Hammer plays all the instruments himself, and that's for good reason; he is a precision arranger and knows how to use a studio to layer his textures in such a way that the perceived excess is minimal though the atmospherics are so grand to be almost suffocating -- the feeling is one of drowning in silk. Lisa Hammer's pipes are truly wondrous as she intones, soars, and comes crashing back into the heart of darkness. And that's where these songs take their cues from: From the opener, "The Hues of Longing," through to "Nostalgia's Sea" to "Sins of the Dove," Hammer's guitars and keyboards provide a place of departure for Lisa. She enunciates each syllable as they fall from her mouth like sad, raw honey and caress the listener before pulling her along into the swirl of the mix and catch her up in the cacophony of complex emotion motivated by grief, longing, unrequited desire, and loss. It's a stunning record, really, though clearly not everyone's cup of tea. If it's sheer passion and delivery you're looking for in your love songs, though, this is the one for you. ~ Thom Jurek

Feather And Fate album
$9.79 A Flock of Seagulls were the missing link between Gary Numan and Duran Duran. The Liverpool, England, new wave scenesters captured the faux-science fiction vibe of the '80s with echo-laden rock anthems, chilly love songs, and a unique, post-glam fashion sense. For their tenth "greatest hits" package -- one was an album of remixes -- they offer their fans a vanity project. Flock leader Mike Score, who from the looks of the cover art had spent the last few years immersed ...

| | Justin Thompson Tasty Puddin' CD (2003)
Feather And Fate songs
$18.99 Brand New Same Old Obsessions is not only the title of Justin Thompson's latest release, but it is also the perfect description for his music -- classic meets modern -- jazz meets pop, and now music lovers are meeting Justin Thompson. Oscar winning actress Marcia Gay Harden recently called him the 'rowdy Harry Connick Jr' in TIME Magazine. He won Nashville's Starving Artist Award for Best Male Artist two years in a row and his debut CD, Tasty Puddin', was named one of Music City's top ten CDs of the year by the Nashville Rage.During his tenure in Nashville, he performed with Katharine Wayland (The Squirrel Nut Zippers), Mark O'Connor, The Nashville Chamber Orchestra, John Hartford, Riders in the Sky, David Grier, Buddy Spicher, Mandy Barnett, Greg Garing, Kathy Chiavola, Annie Sellick, and the Gypsy Hombres. As an Hombre, he was voted 'Best Jazz Musician of Nashville' and had two best selling CDs -- Cafe Strut and Django Bells. The latter received critical acclaim from around the country including four stars from Down Beat magazine and the season's top pick by The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, and NPR's 'All Songs Considered. 'Now based out of New York City, Justin is touring venues ranging from festivals such as South By Southwest to black tie affairs including dinner parties for the former prime minister of Canada and Nashville's Swan Ball (alongside Tony Bennett) to college campuses, house concerts, and jazz clubs scattered throughout the United States. ReviewsIf you like Norah Jones, Frank Sinatra or Harry Connick Jr. , you'll adore this CD. Filled with whimsical lyrics and amazing jazz melodies, Thompson is doing for jazz what Joss Stone has done for soul...modernizing it and bringing tradition into the 21st Century. With a jazz remake of Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby" that begs to be heard, this album is nothing but listening pleasure. In "Because of You" he sings, "Because of you/I learned that love is found/By giving selflessly/And it was you who turned my life around/I only wish that you could see/I'll be holding hands someday again/Kissing lips that may be true/She'll never know the man I am/Is all because of you." He combines cool jazz vocals with hot swing guitar, making this album a classic in my book. If you like that "Sleepless in Seattle" jazz, this is a must have. Don't let the album title throw you off; just get the CD!Rating: 5 stars ...

Ella Fitzgerald & Billie Holiday at Newport presents the naturally intriguing results when Verve paired two sets recorded two days apart (over the 4th of July weekend, 1957) by the two best female singers of the 20th century. Unfortunately, circumstances weren't in their favor, as the combined factors of an unsympathetic band (for Fitzgerald) and shaky health (for Holiday) make these sets ...
