"The Brothers" centers around a closely knit group of four African American men and the challenges they face in their friendships, relationships, and sex lives. The things they fear the most are commitment and honesty. But when one member of the group--the playboy--decides to get engaged, the others start to reconsider their values and the way they treat the women they love. A sincere, romantic comedy, this film is the directorial debut of Gary Hardwick. Dubbed "Refusing to Exhale" by director Gary Hardwick, THE BROTHERS traces the hilarious journey of four African-American men as they take on love, sex, friendship and two of life's most terrifying prospects--honesty and commitment. Smart, successful, and sexy, Jackson Smith (Morris Chestnut), Brian Palmer (Bill Bellamy), Derrick West (D.L. Hughley) and Terry White (Shemar Moore) are "The Brothers"--lifelong friends banded together to weather love's innate terrors and occasional triumphs in this brazenly comic yet painfully true exploration of the battle between the sexes. Amidst the career track, basketball, and bar hopping, "The Brothers" love women, as many as possible, but a shocking revelation tests the foursome's friendship and changes their dating habits forever.
In between the fast-quipping one-liners, each of the four brothers faces a challenge that must be overcome in order to mature into full manhood. The strength of THE BROTHERS rests in the emotional variety of these challenges, which range from Brian's tragic relationship with his mother to Derrick's hysterical sexual problems with his wife. And regardless of the tone of each subplot, Hardwick's characters are well rounded, and filled out by the excellent acting of Chestnut, Hughley, and the gorgeous Gabrielle Union in the female lead. $9.79 Shanté (Vivica A. Fox), a glamorous advertising executive, is a heroine to all her girlfriends. She's the one they turn to for relationship advice--Shanté seems to have all the answers when it comes to romance and understanding men. So when she catches her boyfriend Keith (Morris Chestnut) seeing another girl, Shanté will stop at nothing to win back his affections and her own pride. She decides to implement a 10-day plan to eliminate her competition and get her man to mend his cheating ways. As she puts her plan into action, she speaks directly to the camera, very analytically talking us through every trick in the relationship bag. Shanté will "accidentally" run into Keith with a gorgeous Other Man; she'll ignore his phone calls; she'll even seduce him and then cruelly walk out before the deed is done.
Problem is, Keith doesn't fall for Shanté's games, and instead he gives her a taste of her own medicine. His friend Tony (Anthony Anderson), who is almost as strategic and savvy as Shanté, is advising Keith behind the scenes. This self-conscious tale of conniving, manipulative modern love hearkens back to the film director Mark Brown wrote in 1997, HOW TO BE A PLAYER.
Shante, a successful marketing executive, is always the one her friends go to when they are having man trouble. Shante has the perfect relationship with her lawyer boyfriend Keith until she spots him at a restaurant dancing with another woman! Not to worry...Shante has a 10-day plan to make him behave.

$9.79 Bob Dylan plays the mysterious musician and ex-con Jack Fate in MASKED AND ANONYMOUS, the fictional story of a benefit rock concert in which he is the headliner. Uncle Sweetheart (John Goodman) is the promoter who arranges for Fate's release from prison in order to perform at the show. Meanwhile the sexy producer of the concert (Jessica Lange) leers at Fate with suspicion. When a pushy journalist (Jeff Bridges) and his bohemian girlfriend (Penelope Cruz) join the bunch, along with Fate's most trusted fan (Luke Wilson), what results is a strange mix of moods, characters, and dialogues. Add a Dylan cover band called Simple Twist of Fate that backs up the star as the film makes frequent cuts to performances of full songs, and MASKED AND ANONYMOUS becomes a real rock movie. The film has a foggy storyline about a dictatorial president who is Fate's father, and a setting that depicts a United States that has been transformed into a third-world country full of violence in the streets, political uprisings, and a strong anti-government sentiment. The dialogue is philosophical and nonsensical, creating a strange atmosphere broken only by Dylan's songs. It is the music that carries the film, and this tribute to Dylan and his songwriting talents can't help but win over audiences, especially those comprised of his fans.
Bob Dylan stars as Jack Fate, a singer coerced into making a comeback performance at a shady benefit concert event. Also stars Jessica Lange, Penelope Cruz, Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Luke Wilson. Cameo appearances by Angela Bassett, Bruce Dern, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer, Cheech Marin, Chris Penn, Giovanni Ribisi, Mickey Rourke, Christian Slater, Fred Ward. Includes 4 new Dylan recordings, along with performances of Dylan classics by Los Lobos, Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia and more.
