DUSK AND HER EMBRACE, Cradle of Filth's third release (and first domestically available title), was a shock to the metal system when it was released in 1996. Arguably the British sextet's best produced album, DUSK is a fright-fest, from Dani Filth's unearthly, high-pitched vocalizations to the ferocious, flash-of-the-blade, orchestrated time changes. With production duties handled by the ever-capable Kit Woolven (Thin Lizzy, Anathema, Cathedral), the band nimbly blurs the line between black metal and death metal, all with an ambient twist. Featuring a guest vocal performance by Venom frontman Cronos, DUSK is a benchmark release in the band's hyper-creative career.

The best album black metal has ever produced. Seriously, folks. I know that "Transilvanian Hunger" by Darkthrone and "In the Nightside Eclipse" by Emperor are classics, but neither of those albums can compare to the raw beauty that is this one. Can you think of another black metal album with such well-written, poetic lyrics? Can you think of another black metal album that even comes close to sounding like this one? I sure can't. Yes, this band has gone astray, releasing sub-par albums such as "Thornography", but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate the old stuff. Even if you're a trve kvlt black metal purist, I would still suggest giving this a shot - it's well worth it, in my humble opinion! Submitted by Jay (Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Gothic Black Metal Masterpiece I have heard all of COF's material ,but I think this one was their best one of them all. It's truely amazing how they write their music and their lyrics, kind of takes you back to the 17th century.Anyway this was their best album and I really enjoyed every song, especially Funeral In Carpathia. That one is my best song out of all of them. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cradle of Filth is one of those bands when after you hear them, all other stuff sounds obsolete. This band can do no wrong, they are gods of their genre. This album is a perfect example of that, "Funeral in Carpathia" is one of their best songs. Blistering fast guitars, earth shattering drums, plus screams and growls of pure evil. Dani can do it all! Still considered an "early effort" the makings of a godly band are present here. Well ok, ungodly anyway. Buy this cd now and stop reading reviews!! | | Cradle Of Filth Midian CD (2000)
Dusk And Her Embrace CD music
$14.29 As satanic as anything need be, Cradle of Filth are a black metal ensemble from Suffolk, England, who've managed to keep it extreme, while being wildly popular internationally. They may be the most popular black metal band in the world because they've managed to break away from the genre's relatively small cult following and successfully infect all sorts of disaffected teenagers, especially in Europe. They never veer drastically from the usual black metal staples: movie monster-type vocals, lots of high-pitched screams, indecipherable lyrics, and relentless, punishing riffs. But Midian has its fair share of melody too. (Most of the finest metal does have some element ...

Dusk And Her Embrace songs
$15.59 A 1998 concept album based on the bloody legend of the murderous Hungarian countess Elizabeth Bathory, CRUELTY AND THE BEAST finds the English black-metal act Cradle of Filth indulging in a Wagnerian symphonic sound. While some of CRUELTY's tracks stick to a more straightforward metal aesthetic (see the demonic, driving "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids"), "Desire in Violent Overture" and the sweeping "Bathory Aria" embody frontman Dani Filth's vision of a more grandiose depiction ...

| | Cannonball Adderley Quintet Cleanhead & Cannonball CD (1988)
Dusk And Her Embrace songs
$12.35 New York between September 19, 1961 & February 14, 1962. Includes liner notes by Orrin Keepnews.
A plethora of "lost" recording dates have popped up since the dawn of the compact disc, especially in the jazz world. Unfortunately, most of them haven't been worth the wait and, indeed, as underwhelming as some of them have been, it might -- at least aesthetically speaking -- have been better had they not been unearthed. Happily, this isn't one of these occasions. The two sessions here were recorded in 1961 and 1962 in Chicago and New York, and feature Cannonball Adderley's quintet that included pianist Joe Zawinul, bassist Sam Jones, drummer Louis Hayes, and brother Nat on cornet. Cleanhead sings his ass off and plays some alto with Cannonball. These dates reveal an anomaly in jazz at the time: The recordings are the place on the map where jazz and R&B meet head on, bringing the full force of their respective traditions and neither giving an inch. And it works so well -- from the wild bluesy shout of Vinson in call and response with Adderley on "Bright Lights, Big ...
| | Withering Surface Force The Pace CD (2005) Bonus Track; Japan
Dusk And Her Embrace album
$11.89 This album by Danish melodic metal band Withering Surface features 12 tracks, including "Hold the Line" and "State of Emergency."
Already a decade into their troubled career come 2004, Denmark's Withering Surface have haunted the outskirts of death metal success for far too long; and given this latest album's competent but generally indistinctive contents, chances are they'll be relegated to the fringes for still a while longer. You've heard the tale a hundred times: hard working unit has a tough time hanging on to a stable lineup, stumbles from one nearly-bankrupt indie label to another every other year, and fails to secure a loyal following ...
