Bob Florence is best known as a talented arranger for big bands including his own Limited Edition. This CD is quite a bit different for it is a solo piano set that is mostly taken at a slow and relaxed pace, quite often out of tempo. Florence plays melodically, with wistfulness and a touch of nostalgia. The music is rather dreamy and relaxing with six of the 11 tracks being medleys. It succeeds both as superior background music and as an introspective and thoughtful set of piano musings. ~ Scott Yanow

In August 2001, Terry Gibbs was digging around in one of the closets of his Los Angeles home when came across about 25 boxes of old reel-to-reel tapes. As it turned out, some of those tapes contained previously unreleased Dream Band recordings of 1959 gigs in Hollywood. So Gibbs contacted Fantasy about the possibility of putting out some of that live material -- which had remained in the vibist/bandleader's private collection for over 40 years -- and the result is Dream Band, Vol. 6: One More Time (a generally excellent CD that Fantasy decided to release on Contemporary).
