On this respectable bop set, Israeli guitarist Roni Ben-Hur is heard in the company of luminaries: pianist Barry Harris, tenorist Charles Davis, bassist Walter Booker, and drummer Leroy Williams. The group starts off with Elmo Hope's "So Nice." (Ben-Hur has studied Hope's music as a member of Bertha Hope's Elmollennium ensemble.) They also offer readings of Charlie Parker's polyphonic blues head "Visa," Billy Strayhorn's "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing," and the movie theme "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing." Ben-Hur's title track and two Barry Harris originals round out the program. Good playing all around, but a bit too sedate to leave a lasting impression. ~ David R. Adler
For his first Reservoir recording, guitarist Roni Ben-Hur has chosen his colleagues in the same way that he selects the notes he plays - with love & great care. In the company of four masters (tenor saxophonist Charles Davis, pianist Barry Harris, bassis

| | Zack Thomas CD (1999)
Anna's Dance music CDs
$7.49 The artistry of Zack Thomas begins with the songs: lyrical narratives suspended on insistent hooks and memorable melodies. It's an accessible and economical sound, strung between tight, rocking rhythms and taut chords, fully charged with the undeniable power of commitment. Zack states simply, "I write songs that come out of who I am."Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he knew by age ten that music was his calling. With a converted record player as an amplifier, he and his fledgling band made their debut performing at backyard parties and dances. It was enough to start the fire. After high school Zack relocated to Dallas, Texas. Sharing management with T-Bone Burnett's Alpha Band, success across the Southwest--opening shows and packing clubs soon followed. "It got real big, real fast," Zack recalls. But success had a darker side. He remembers thinking "this is taking control of my life." Inevitably, the band broke up. Fortunately travel, relocation and real-life experience followed. A road map of Zack's adopted hometowns includes Houston, Washington D.C. and Atlanta. When he returned full cycle to Cincinnati, it was with a renewed devotion to the art of song writing."I was thinking about my life," says Zack, "and what is really important. It never stopped being music. I never stopped playing."It was only a short drive southward--so Zack moved to Nashville."It was great to be in a town where song writing is king," recalls Zack, "and I got serious." He co-wrote, performed at writer's nights at the Boardwalk and The Bluebird, got married...but the road was still calling."I was more pop-oriented," he explains, "and I started thinking California."On his self-titled debut CD/EP Zack's Nashville friends, including some of the most noted session players in town are very much in evidence. From demos of twenty-five songs, he selected four to record for a fully-mastered radio-ready release. These tracks, cut live in a studio near downtown Nashville, possesses the vibrant energy made only by live ...

| | Angel Williams So Damn Sexy CD (2007)
Anna's Dance CD music
$16.45 Angel Williams, singer, songwriter, and producer, is the triple threat that many artists strive to become. No stranger to the R&B/House Music scene, Angel spent her earlier years singing funky, hypnotic tracks such as 'Stand Up' with Revolution. Her debut release 'So Damn Sexy' is a culmination of years in the music industry as a singer/songwriter and performer. From the lyrics to the artwork, Angel has crafted a professional cd which will set the standard for future independent projects. A true biographical work of art, Angel sings from the heart and tells her own personal stories of heartache, abuse, unrequited love, and even a salute to those who have risked their lives for this country.Angel's throaty, yet sultry voice is reminiscent of a combination of Phyllis Hyman and Whitney Houston. Her stand out single, 'How Could You', is destined to become a true anthem for all women who have experienced heartache. Her ...
