MADHOUSE: THE VERY BEST OF ANTHRAX chronicles the groups work from 1985 through 1991. The influential New York-based thrash metal band was one of the first rock outfits to experiment with rap (predating the whole "rap metal" craze of the late '90s by a decade). This is borne out by such tracks as "Bring the Noise," a Public Enemy cover featuring cameos by Chuck D and Flavor Flav. But Anthrax is best remembered as a true heavy metal band, and such standouts as "Madhouse," "Indians," "Belly of the Beast," and a metallic re-working of Joe Jackson's "Got the Time" prove it. Although the group would go on to issue more material throughout the '90s and beyond, MADHOUSE: THE VERY BEST OF collects nearly all of Anthrax's definitive cuts.
Anthrax: Joey Belladonna (vocals); Dan Spitz, Scott Ian (guitar); Frank Bello (bass); Charlie Benante (drums).

| | Ozzy Osbourne Ozzmosis CD (1995) Remastered
Madhouse: The Very Best Of Anthrax album
$7.59 Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing.
Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting.
But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. His songs still spew biting commentary at whoever ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne The Ozzman Cometh CD (2002)
Madhouse: The Very Best Of Anthrax CD music
$9.69 THE OZZMAN COMETH is a single CD collection of hits, previously unavailable recordings and one new track. Previously included a limited edition second disc containing 2 of the 4 previously unavailable recordings as well as an interview with Ozzy Osbourne.
As if we needed another reason to believe that Ozzy Osbourne is God, along comes THE OZZMAN COMETH, a double CD retrospective of one of the most enduring and influential figures in heavy metal. Consisting mostly of his post-Black Sabbath solo work as well as a live version of "Paranoid," this collection's biggest asset is the so-called "basement tapes," never-before-heard rehearsal tapes of four classic Sabbath songs. Dating back to 1970, "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs" are the songs that transformed a petty thief from Birmingham, England into the godfather of heavy metal.
But if Sabbath cemented his place in the rock 'n' roll canon, his solo work raised him to legendary status. Working with former Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, Osbourne set the tone for the 80's metal revival with songs like "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley." Capping off the collection is a seventeen minute interview with Ozzy from 1988, where he speaks frankly about the ups and downs in his career (parents be forewarned: this is not for the faint ...
| | Hurrah For The Shadows CD (1975) Import
Madhouse: The Very Best Of Anthrax music CDs
$27.95 On the one hand, the Shadows are among the last throwbacks to a brand of utterly professional, painstakingly precise package rock & roll that existed in England before the Beatles and their contemporaries came along and substituted passion for a degree of virtuosity. On the other, the Shadows were among the biggest boosters of the electric guitar in a culture that still wasn't certain of its feelings for American-style jazz, much less rock & roll. This expanded version of the live album they cut at the Paris Olympia showcases the group's virtues and flaws about as well as anything they ever did, and may be the best way -- other than picking up a handful of hits like "Apache" -- for the uninitiated to discover the Shadows. They were really "on" that night, in the midst of a European tour concurrent with their first chart success ("Let Me Be the One") in a dog's age. What's more, although the Shadows ...
