This trio of young R&B singers might depend on the appeal of their smooth, sensual vocal style to the female population for a great deal of their success, but that's not the whole story. IMX isn't a group of egotistical braggarts, but a thoughtful, sensitive crew with a penchant for sentimentality that walks hand in hand with their mack daddy aspirations. It's hard to picture many of IMX's peers pausing their pursuit of sexual conquest to nostalgically (in fact, downright winsomely) recall their first carnal experiences the way IMX does on "First Time" for example. On such percolating tracks as "Hate the Playa" and "Ain't No Need," the group's hip-hop influences come out in the form of visceral, angular synth riffs and energetic rhythms. As the romantic ballad "Beautiful (You Are)" shows, though, IMX is fully capable of excelling at the classic R&B slow jam.

| | Trina Da Baddest BH CD (2000)
Imx music CDs
$8.65 Rapper Trina hopes to pick up where Lil' Kim, Da Brat, and a host of other potty-mouthed hardcore gals left off, rhyming about sex and her ability to go at it all night and her quest to find a man willing to do the same for her. By the end of her debut album, it all gets a bit monotonous. Only so many sleazy sex rhymes are tolerable before they become weary. Da Baddest Bitch is at its best when Trina steps out of the gutter and cops a Miami bass beat aimed more toward the dancefloor than the bedroom. The title track and "Off Glass," as well as guest performances from Trick Daddy, Twista, and J-Shin, keep the momentum relatively steady. ~ Michael Gallucci

Imx CD music
$11.99 On ECSTACY, Myron Avant, the Cleveland native who was also the first artist signed to Magic Johnson's MJM record label, sings satin sheet-smooth R&B with sexy self-assurance. It's tinged with an irresistible pleading tone which he uses time and again to devastating effect on cuts such as the smoky, after-hours "Thinkin' About You" and the reggae-inflected "What Do You Want." "Six in Da Morning" conjures the dazed, freaky mood of the end of a long night's partying, while the darker "Suicide" recalls an R&B poet of a previous generation, Percy Mayfield, in its brooding lyrics.
Avant's silky tones are set against ...
| | James Brown Out Of Sight! Very Best Of CD (2002) (Import) England; Remastered; United Kingdom
Imx music CDs
$11.99 OUT OF SIGHT is an 18-track hits collection of the godfather of soul's recordings between 1958 and 1975, highlighted by "Its a Man's Man's Man's World," "The Payback," and "Papas Got a Brand New Bag."
If you don't have access to the dozens of James Brown compilations in the United States or Japan, this Universal U.K. collection may be just the thing to get you up offa that thang. Given that they own virtually all of the James Brown masters, we can be assured that these versions of his best-known material are first recordings as opposed to the many dodgy live boots out there from fly-by-night labels attempting to cash in as well as deceive fans. This one is strictly legit. There are 18 cuts on this monster; rather than concentrating on being representative of Brown's long career, this disc touches on his soul years but goes deeper into representing the development of the funk we all love him for. "Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine" and "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" precede "Try Me," "Please Please Please," and "It's a Man's Man's Man's World." Other material here includes the killer versions of "Body Heat" and "The Payback," with plenty in ...

| | Toussaint 2 Die Is Gain CD (2005)
Imx album
$15.19 "I won't put Jesus Christ in the background", Toussaint, the Winston-Salem, NC. born artist, exclaims on his debut album "2 Die Is Gain", taken from Philippians 1:21. And that appears to be the case throughout his music and shown through his lifestyle. Toussaint displays such ingenuity with lyrical skills in such an unexposed market, that he's only seen the beginning of the success he's about to encounter. On Tuesday, January 18th, 2005, Floodland Recordings opened its flood gates to debut the album, 2 Die Is Gain, by Toussaint. This highly-anticipated project, which is a breathtaking fusion of creative hip-hop rhythms and powerfully-penned rhymes, will not disappoint avid hip-hop fans. But even more, it will unconventionally usher those seeking fulfillment into the arms and presence of the Lord.Under the umbrella of a talented production team, led by Floodland Recordings founder, Derek Farrior, 2 Die Is Gain humbly boasts 18 tracks featuring phenomenal cuts such as the album's first single, the Asian/Reggae-flavored "Roll With Christ," the R&B-tinged "It's Gotta Be Love," the infectious baby-bopper "Thank God," the thrilling Rocky-inspired "K.O.," the move-you-to-tears call to worship "We Give Glory" and the thought-provoking and foreboding "No Ordinary Day." And it would be remiss not to mention the engaging interludes, such as the comedic interaction between Toussaint and "Mr. World," portrayed by Farrior. Toussaint began on this rap music journey in 1993 in Charlotte, NC. His father, a minister for 39 years, and along with his wife, has always instilled Christian values in him and his siblings. So while they didn't mind Toussaint's adoration for basketball, they didn't take too kindly to his love for rap music, even going so far as to find his tapes and throw them away. But with basketball not working out like he had planned, Toussaint turned to rap music, which his parents detested. In the winter of 1999, during his senior year, Toussaint's father was called to pastor a church in Birmingham, AL. Since his parents were originally from Birmingham, they made a decision to return. Toussaint did not like this at all-he was finally becoming known as a rapper in Charlotte by performing at talent shows and freestyles on local radio stations, but in the end, he had no choice. Toussaint moved to Alabama with his family, finished school and immediately returned to Charlotte, where he stayed with his second to eldest brother. He began hanging out with friends, living totally in contrary to the Word his father preached, engaging in worldly behavior. His love for rap, however, never changed, but grew stronger with aspirations of one day making it big. Two years after living by the world's standards of "fun," God lead Toussaint to the point of repentance. Toussaint ...
