| | Kill Your Idols Funeral For A Feeling CD Kill Your Idols Discography of CDs
Shouted vocals, screaming guitars, and hyperpounded drums, all the hallmarks of hardcore are here. A different aspect of Kill Your Idol's Funeral for a Feeling, though, is that it seems much more crouched in late-'90s pop-punk than anything out of the '80s D.C. scene. Like most So-Cal pop-punk releases, the tracks suffer from a limited tempo range; it's always the same damn drum pounding. While it's interesting to see that hardcore has infiltrated the Epitaph/Fat Wreck camp, Funeral for a Feeling seems more like good hardcore to give to your pop-punker little brother. After he's acclimated to this, hook him up with Minor Threat. As for this album, while some tracks are good and stand apart from the thumping morass, a general sense of "feh" is the end judgement. ~ Jeremy Salmon

Funeral For A Feeling album
$6.29 For the last five years, Good Riddance has been putting out angry, aggressive, Cali-style hardcore music on Fat Wreck Chords. This year they were seen at summer's "punk" version of Lollapalooza, the Warped Tour 2000. All things considered, I'd say they were doing pretty well for a bunch of surfers! Yet on their latest EP, recorded by the notorious Bill Stevenson (Descendents, All) at the Blasting Room, Good Riddance don't do much more than show that they are still angry, and that they still play hardcore. Don't get me wrong, I think for a new-school hardcore band, Good Riddance is one of the finer groups out there, but this time my hunger for tear-your-face-off chord progressions and intense ...

Funeral For A Feeling CD music
$12.19 Screaming has rarely, if ever, been as artful as it is on Give Blood. The Beantown hardcore merchants' sophomore platter is, simply put, intelligent, and not in the Fugazi/Bad Religion realm of academic snootiness, though you could certainly do worse than the impassioned social critiques presented admirably and less than amiably by Aaron Bedard. The acumen comes from expanding the boundaries of the (self) limited genre without removing its requisite hostility. The gang-chorus vocals recall the rugged, thugged-out mug-pulling of New York hardcore stalwarts, but the rhythm section is damn near jazzy, like Helmet could have been if it didn't ...
| | Who Odds And Sods CD (1974) Remastered
Funeral For A Feeling music CDs
$11.29 ODDS AND SODS is a collection of outtakes and rarities from the 1960s through the early '70s, including "I'm The Face," recorded by The Who when they called themselves The High Numbers.
ODDS AND SODS stands out a bit in the Who canon. The aptly titled 1974 collection features songs that, for one reason or another, didn't end up on their initial recordings. It's a mixed bag to be sure, one that includes pre-Who numbers like "I'm the Face," introspective and religious-themed pop ("Too Much of Anything," "Faith in Something Bigger"), and some inspired goofiness like the anti-smoking "Little Billy." Unlike a lot of out-takes collections, there are no clinkers here, and there are several gems.
"Pure and Easy," from the aborted "Lighthouse" project, ranks with any of the great melodies Pete Townshend has written. The slowly building "Naked Eye," passionately sung in alternating verses by Daltrey and Townshend, ebbs and flows to an explosive climax. The most familiar tune here is probably "Long Live Rock," whose canny lyrics look back at the band's early days and boast, "We were the first band to vomit in the bar/and find the distance to the stage too far." A quirky collection that grows more appealing as time goes by.
Originally released on MCA (2126) .
The Who: John Entwistle (bass instrument, background vocals); Keith Moon , Pete Townshend (background vocals); Roger Daltrey.

| | Johnny Adams Best Of New Orleans Rhythm & Blues Vol. 1 CD (1995)
Funeral For A Feeling songs
$13.59 The title is a bit misleading. BEST OF NEW ORLEANS RHYTHM & BLUES, VOLUME 1 is essentially Johnny Adams' album of soul covers. Adams was, of course, born in New Orleans, and he remained a big local favorite until his death in 1998. But only a few of the songs he remakes here-Aaron Neville's "Tell it Like it Is" being the best known-are associated with Crescent City artists.
In any event, this isn't Adams' best record. The sound and instrumental backing are wildly inconsistent, and the whole thing feels suspiciously like a collection of demos. That said, Adams is one of the true, unheralded masters of R&B and soul, and he's in fine form throughout the album. A faithful version of Toussaint McCall's "Nothing Compares to You" is a real spine tingler, while Adam's trademark falsetto gets a terrific workout on the uptempo "Spanish Harlem."
Includes liner notes by Jeff Hannusch.
