THE SINGLES COLLECTION collects tracks originally appearing between 1984 and 1991. Released the same day as a companion volume, B-SIDES COLLECTION, THE SINGLES is a non-chronological, yet curiously cohesive collection of industrial dance music. On early Puppy albums, individual songs tended to be overrun by the powerful vitriol of the record as a whole. On later ones, the interesting tracks were occasionally obscured by less interesting filler material. This collection draws together a number of tracks and, in doing so, gives each one the attention it deserves while simultaneously maintaining a level of constancy not heard since 1988's VIVISECT VI.
"Worlock Ed," a remix of Worlock from RABIES, is quintessential Skinny Puppy--Charles Manson samples, guitar riffs from "Helter Skelter," and Nivek Ogre's strangled, buried vocals. "Tin Omen," also from that album, features the band at its most Ministry-like, all clanging guitars and pummeling drum machines (no surprise given that the co-producer was Al Jourgensen). "Censor" opens with a whirl of synthesized distortion before mutating into a rather twisted, jerking dance beat. "Stairs and Flowers" is a slowly morphing metallic beast, that comes complete with heavily-amplified groans and cries, a more distorted vocal than usual, and weirdly stately sounding string samples.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

Singles Collection album
$11.89 Released on the same day as its companion volume THE SINGLES COLLECTION, 1999's THE B-SIDES COLLECTION is arguably the more interesting of the two albums. Although Skinny Puppy fancied themselves rebels and social outcasts, their singles were often surprisingly normal. Their b-sides, on the other hand, were usually more exciting, inventive, and experimental, and fans of the more challenging aspects ...
| | Skinny Puppy Cleanse, Fold And Manipulate CD (1987)
Singles Collection CD music
$11.89 CLEANSE, the third album from Canada's Skinny Puppy, is chock full of everything that defines the band's ethos--extremely dense backing tracks, loads of samples, growling electronically-distorted vocals, creepy lyrics, and blunt, punctuating beats. The album features a fairly subtle division in the middle. The first half consists of slightly-faster-than-dirge monuments to decay, while the second half serenades decay with brutal, monolithic dance beats.
Skinny Puppy's best tracks focus on specific themes. "The Mourn" addresses medical experimentation. "Second Tooth" deals with military intervention. And the minor dance-floor hit "deep down ...
| | Skinny Puppy Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse CD (1986)
Singles Collection music CDs
$11.69 Quite possibly the best album title in all of industrial-disco--although Revolting Cocks' YOU GODDAMNED SON OF A BITCH has a certain earthy charm--1986's MIND: THE PERPETUAL INTERCOURSE is one of Skinny Puppy's most fascinating albums. This is clearly a transitional release that moves the duo of cEVIN Key and Nivek Ogre from the heavily ...
| | Skinny Puppy Remission CD (1984)
Singles Collection songs
$11.95 Throbbing Gristle came and went. Cabaret Voltaire furthered TG's grimy rhythmic onslaughts. Even SPK abandoned the cacophonous death noise of earlier records for the allure of the dance floor. But it was Canada's Skinny Puppy that paved the way for guys like Trent Reznor and Ministry. REMISSION, SP's first EP, remains the Puppy's finest hour. The breadth of vision and amazing instrumental prowess of vocalist Nivek Ogre and ...

| | Skinny Puppy Too Dark Park CD (1990)
Singles Collection CD music
$11.95 TOO DARK PARK solidified Canadian trio Skinny Puppy's presence as a major figure on the American goth-industrial scene in 1990. Here, Skinny Puppy mines the same primal scream intensity as Nine Inch Nails, showing some influence from Ministry minus the superfluous grunge. Skinny Puppy is the purest exponent ...
| | New Orleans Collective CD (1992)
Singles Collection music CDs
$10.15 Trumpeter Nicholas Payton is teamed up with Wessell Anderson (who doubles on sopranino and alto), pianist Peter Martin, bassist Christopher Thomas and drummer Brian Blade for an unusual set of music that shifts between hard bop and New Orleans jazz. While "Rhonda Mile" (which uses the chord changes to "Indiana") is pure bop, other selections combine the two idioms and "Four or Five Times" (listed as an Anderson original but actually a standard from the 1920s) is strictly Dixieland. A highpoint is the 16-minute "He Was a Good Man, Oh Yes He Was" which musically depicts a New Orleans funeral. Throughout, ...

| | Eric Clapton E.C. Was Here CD (1975) (Import) Japan; Remastered; Mini LP Sleeve
Singles Collection CD music
$39.39 On the original LP, the song "Drifting Blues" faded out after about 3 minutes. The CD contains the complete 11:31 version.
Released in the same year as 1975's THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD, E.C. WAS HERE is a live album short on content but long in presentation. Backed by his usual mid-70's studio cohorts (George Terry, Jamie Oldaker, Yvonne Elliman, Marcy Levy, etc.), Clapton ignored his then-current material off CROWD and 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD, instead choosing to explore his immediate, post-Cream era along with some extended, old favorites. ...
