(1 Customer Review)
As a strictly Rastafarian DJ, Sizzla has often courted controversy with his politically militant lyrics and bold criticism of Jamaican society. Taking Over continues this pattern, with lots of talk against Babylon and it's corrupt system. Sizzla's impassioned, manic delivery, showcased on tracks such as "Thought for Today" and "Reach," is what sets him apart from the rest of his contemporaries. Stalking the stage with his locks wrapped in a white turban, few can match the ferocious stage presence of Sizzla live. But this presence doesn't always translate onto a recording and except for the classic roots sound of tunes like "Somewhere Oh Oh" and "Fare," where his toasting is softer, Sizzla's strident vocals becomes wearing after a while. ~ Rosalind Cummings-Yeates

Taking Over album
$13.05 This follow up to Anthony B's smash debut album SO MANY THINGS includes his hits "Damage" and "Waan Back." In a well-conceived album, here producer Richard "Bello" Bell and the DJ explore new directions. There's more stylistic variety than on B's previous album, more than simply one rebel tune after another. The album is broader in appeal than SO MANY THINGS, and that diversity is its delight.
"Nah Vote Again" is pure Anthony B with a twist of Peter Tosh, and "Zinc Fence Jungle" is a tuneful combination style with Luciano, while "Universal Struggle" and ...

$9.55 As if the racks weren't stuffed with enough 2004 Sizzla product, the gruff and righteous one released Stay Focus through the high-profile VP label. Add production by the Xterminator Productions crew and you've got Sizzla's most commercial release of the year, but don't think Stay Focus is easygoing or necessary. A full album of Sizzla's relentless fast tongue isn't for everyone, but his fans eat up his hard-line, Bobo Dread-influenced lyrics. Stay Focus ...

Taking Over music CDs
$13.59 Barry "DJ Scratchy" Myers is a name better known to punk club crawlers in the U.K. than to your average music fan. In the late '70s he was one of the premier punk DJs, supporting the Ramones and the Cramps and eventually serving two years as the tour DJ for the Clash. He was still at it 20 years later, serving the same part for Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros' U.S. tour. How he was able to get such choice gigs boils down to his eclectic ear ...
