| Hits Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Hopefully They Won't Remain Silent Not every musician or group, can be: Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, etc. Hopefully not all will be singled out, for just one hit. There are groups out there that are quality musicians and writers, but if you are not like the above mentioned, then you end up flying under the radar. Which means, that radio and country fans do not get to hear as much of other groups as they should. Submitted by gary (Palm Springs, CA - USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT - YOU'RE MISSIN' OUT! What a treat to have a CD where any song released off it has such potential. The Hits is absolutely addictive. Soon, I'll have to purchase and replacement. Submitted by beckyd2317 (Chillicothe, IL USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Hits CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Taylor Swift Fearless CD (2008) Enhanced CD
Hits
$13.65 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman ...

| | Hard To Find 45'S On CD: Pop & Country Classics CD (2002)
Hits
$13.69 The Hard to Find 45s on CD series is a very subjective -- and some would say guaranteed to start an argument or fight at your next party with loudmouth music freaks -- batch of compilation recordings that focuses on various aspects of genre-specific music and time periods. This set centers itself on country tunes that became crossover successes from the 1950s through the urban(e) cowboy era in 1982 and pop music that charted by country artists. Some tracks would have been impossible to exclude, such as Lefty Frizzell's number one country chart smash "Saginaw, Michigan," even if it scored a lowly number 85 on the pop chart. Same goes for Leroy Van Dyke's reading of Isaac Hayes' "Walk on By," which scored a number five in pop and didn't chart in the country Top 40, and Ferlin Husky's "Gone," which went to the top of the country list and scored a number four in pop. They are included as evidence of "marginal" crossovers and provided the template by which other recordings would be measured, recorded, and released -- at least in the singles and jukebox markets. But there are some forgotten gems here as well, including the Marvin Rainwater nugget "Gonna Find Me a Bluebird," ...
| | John Denver Definitive All-Time Greatest Hits CDs (2004) Bonus CD
Hits
$9.69 The title of this collection by the Jesus of 1970s soft pop makes no bones about its intentions. Fortunately, it delivers what it promises in spades. DEFINITIVE ALL-TIME GREATEST HITS chronicles the hit-packed career of John Denver without missing a trick. From his earliest, most folk-oriented material ("Leaving on a Jet Plane," a hit for Peter, Paul & Mary) to his more country-flavored compositions ("Take Me Home, Country Roads," the stomp-along "Thank God I'm a Country Boy"), we're given a full picture of Denver's abilities. Early-'80s duets with Placido Domingo ("Perhaps Love") and Emmylou Harris ("Wild Montana Skies") underscore both the far-reaching ripples Denver made in the music world and the full range of his own gifts. Such gentle, melodic ballads as "Annie's Song" and "Sunshine on My Shoulders" are the distilled essence of what made '70s AM radio tick, and will elicit instant nostalgia for the era when Denver's brand of quiet, graceful songcraft reigned supreme. For the hardcore fan, a bonus ...
| | Alan Jackson Good Time CD (2008)
Hits
$10.89 On his first traditional country album since 2004's WHAT I DO, Alan Jackson steps outside the comfortable routine he's created for himself in favor of creating a more personal and introspective work. The first album on which Jackson has written all of the songs all by himself, GOOD TIME is Jackson's most autobiographical album by some distance. "Small Town Southern Man" is a touching farewell to his late father, while "I Wish I Could Back Up" and "Never Loved Before" (a duet with country superstar Martina McBride) are intimate love songs more revealing ...
| | George Strait Pure Country CD (1992) Original Soundtrack; SDTK
Hits
$10.39 George Strait is one of the leading proponents of a traditional country music that is styled with Texas swing, delivering his music with a rich, no frills voice and a straight-ahead delivery.
PURE COUNTRY is the soundtrack to Strait's film debut, offering a variety of swinging shuffles, traditional honky tonk, weepy ballads and country rockers. He wears his influences proudly, and having been doing it so well for so long, he has, in turn, become a major influence on the next generation of new traditionalists. One can clearly hear Merle Haggard, Bob Wills and George Jones in his music; but give a listen to new guys like Clay Walker, and you'll hear a distinctive George Strait influence.
Riding a flat-bed of fiddle, pedal steel and genuinely heartfelt vocals, Strait takes the listener on a tour of the country singer's world. On the uptempo "Heartland," George explains that to "sing a song about the heartland" is to "sing a song about my life." The album's hit, "I Cross My Heart," is a strong love ballad co-written by one of Nashville's best current songwriters, ...
| | New Christy Minstrels Golden Classics Edition: Today/Ramblin' CD (1997)
Hits
$10.55 This is an odd reissue, compiling one of the Christys' weaker LPs with their strongest individual album on one CD. Today did double duty as an official group album and the soundtrack to the film Advance to the Rear, and it has a quartet of good, rousing songs typical of the Christys in a boisterous mood ("This Ol' Riverboat," "Whistlin' Dixie," "Way Down in Arkansas," "Charleston Town") and one achingly beautiful ballad ("Anything Love Can Buy"), as well as the hit title track. Unfortunately, those songs are interspersed with marches, dances, and other incidental music from the movie that doesn't work outside of that context. Ramblin', by contrast, holds up extremely well and, ...
| | Mark Gross Riddle Of The Sphinx CD (2000)
Hits
$12.89 Heavily inspired by ancient Egyptian culture, alto/soprano saxophonist Gross has constructed a musical theme park for this recording, one evoking images of wind-whipped sands and desert caravans. The meat of the music is clearly Gross' literate and even-keeled sax playing, but much can be said about Joe Locke's shadings on vibes and (especially) marimba and the incredibly sensitive and commanding presence of the great pianist Mulgrew Miller. Bassist Darryl Hall, drummer Brian Blade, and percussionist Khalil Kwame Bell add their fair share as well, but the cherry on top is the oud playing of John LaBarbara, who contributes the perfect amount of spice to this Middle Eastern jazz gumbo. Gross wrote half of the CD's ten cuts. "Valley of the Dry Bones" starts with a Coltrane-like free-burning fire that eventually gives way to a camel-strut pace propelled by alto sax, oud, and marimba. "Moses in Egypt," a quietly urgent, modal 7/8, is an interesting concept, while the title cut is graced by Gross' soprano, Blade's brushed jungle beat, and Miller's cascading piano. "The Desert Sands of Cairo" is a sunny stroll, and the "The Red Sea" features Miller's lush piano and Gross' forward-march alto. The other half of the recording showcases well-known jazz pieces. On an alto-driven version of Wayne Shorter's classic "Black Nile," Blade works the tempo like a mad puppeteer. Cannonball Adderley's "Marabi," adorned here with soprano, oud, bells, and bowed bass, flows into a neat Caribbean groove. A ...
