(6 Customer Reviews)
MOUNTAIN SOUL was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.
A 180-degree departure from contemporary commercial country music, album number six from the always dynamic Loveless is like a breath of fresh air on a steamy summer afternoon. Mountain Soul is a rare and brilliant acoustic 14-track album of bluegrass mountain music. Amidst the mandolins, fiddles, and banjos is Loveless' harking alto voice, singing from her soul to the music she grew up with. Just when you thought the days of Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, and the Stanley Brothers were gone, Loveless brings them back with new life and staggering grace. Rounding out this ubiquitous collection are soft-singing collaborators Travis Tritt, Ricky Skaggs, and Rebecca Lynn Howard. ~ Maria Konicki Dinoia

Bluegrass Forever Bluegrass music turns me on like no other sound can. It can bring extreme emotion to the listener. It is pure pleasure. Patty Loveless has produced an excellent collection of songs here all in true bluegrass format with accompaniment that is hard to beat. I will look for more of this from Patty. Keep it coming.

One of my favorites I bought this last December (2002)& have listened to it 2 dozen times. One of the best CD's that I own. I read a review from someone that didn't like it but they must be into rap not to enjoy this beautiful music. I love the gospel numbers and the haunting "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive". I'm going to give copies to my friends for Christmas gifts. I hope Patty sticks with Bluegrass...it suits her well. Submitted by a reviewer (Greensboro, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Forever Patty I have everyone of Patty's albums and had never been disappointed. This CD is different from most of her work, but takes her back to her roots. Submitted by a reviewer (Vincennes, IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Patty Loveless Sings From The Soul This is a must-have collection for any Loveless fan. This is the album Patty Loveless was born to record! She dips deep within herself to bring you a taste of pure bluegrass heaven. Coming from Kentucky, she brings realism to every note. These are songs of mountain life. The people there have lived and died by such words as those sung in such classics as "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive." If radio had balls, this anthem would be a hit. They don't! So trust me. You MUST buy this album and hear it yourself! Bluegrass and treditional country fans are likely to agree:all 14 of the tracks contained herein have pure Mountain Soul! Thanks Patty for such a perfect collection. Submitted by a reviewer (Santa Rosa, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Mountain Soul CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Rhonda Vincent Storm Still Rages CD (2001)
Mountain Soul album
$14.59 After spending several years languishing in Nashville, Rhonda Vincent made an unusual career move: she returned to bluegrass and recorded Back Home Again for Rounder in 2000. Garnering positive responses from critics and fans, Vincent knew she had made the right move. A cross between traditional and contemporary bluegrass, The Storm Still Rages features superb accompaniment and a handful of well-chosen songs. Vincent has also penned or co-penned several of the songs, including the opening cut, "Cry of the Whippoorwill." Her expressive vocal on the heartbreaker "Don't Lie" is lovingly underlined by Stuart Duncan's fiddle and Bryan Sutton's mandolin. Bassist Darrin Vincent, Rhonda's brother, adds harmony ...
