| | Jacob Miller Collector's Classics CD (1988)
Trix In The Mix CD music
$11.49 Mikey Rastar, Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Sly Dunbar, Calvin McKenzie (drums);
This generous 20-track collection of Jacob Miller's solo work is not only a sumptuous entry into the late star's oeuvre, but is arguably the best roundup of his work available. Collector's Classics bundles up the entirety of the artist's 1978 solo Jacob "Killer" Miller album, itself a masterpiece of roots rockers, chock-full of seminal numbers. The high point was the classic "Forward Ever," but of equal note are other such superlative dread numbers as "Lamb's Bread Collie" and "80,000 Careless Ethiopians." The phenomenal "Shaky Girl" and the rocksteady soul of "Mrs. Brown" are of the same caliber, as is the sizzling autobiographical title track; then again, nearly every track is just that. Some, but not all, of Miller's follow-up album, 1979's Wanted (not to be confused with the Wanted More album), is also rounded up. The criminal omission is "Peace Treaty Style," but you do get the superb "Healing of the Nation" and "Standing Firm," another pair of crucial dread offerings. The rest of the set helpfully ...
| | Legendary Dig Masters Vol. 4: The Vocal Groups CD (1994) (Import) United Kingdom
Trix In The Mix music CDs
$16.65 This excellent collection compiles 24 tracks from the vaults of bandleader Johnny Otis' California-based label. Dig started life as Ultra, eventually turning into Eldo, all local Los Angeles concerns, and this volume shines the spotlight on the many vocal groups that waxed for the label. Otis had long been recording doo wop (he discovered the Robins, who later coalesced into the Coasters) getting groups like the Lamplighters, the Shieks, the Sultans, the Cats and the Tenderfoots hooked up with labels such as Peacock, Aladdin and Federal. This volume in chronicling the label features rare singles from the Phantoms, the Gladiators, Arthur Lee Maye and the ...
| | Silvertones Silver Bullets CD (1973)
Trix In The Mix songs
$9.95 The Silvertones' only LP release was 1973's Silver Bullets, produced by Lee Perry -- who had virtually debuted as a vocal-group producer in 1968 with this Delroy Denton-led combo. Although it has ...
| | Anthony B So Many Things CD (1996)
Trix In The Mix album
$13.39 Anthony B appeared on the dancehall scene in the mid-'90s, a member of an emergent movement that emphasized roots and culture themes, classic reggae riddims, and melodic hooks. Initially just another youthful singjay following in the steps of Buju Banton (whose TIL SHILOH had started this cultural renaissance in reggae), Anthony B quickly made a name for himself with an energetic stage presence and a series of great singles for the Star Trail crew. 1995's debut SO MANY THINGS solidified Anthony B's growing reputation as one of reggae's ...
| | Boycrazy Foreign Words CD (2001)
Trix In The Mix CD music
$11.99 The most pleasant of indie pop diversions, Boycrazy presents a good-natured marriage of crisp boy-girl harmonies, clean guitars, and instantly memorable melodies. Having ties to the Elephant 6 collective, with Bryce Edwards and Rachel Blumberg also being members of the Minders, Boycrazy generally comes across with a much more everyday pop aesthetic, pleasantly free of the more experimental and psychedelic meanderings that could be expected from such an association. While that's not to say that Foreign Words' 12 tracks are marred by a lack of adventurousness, as four-part harmonies, changing time signatures, and various moods are presented, one ...
| | Captain Soul Beat Your Crazy Head Against CD (2001) (Import) United Kingdom
Trix In The Mix music CDs
$12.95 BEAT YOUR HEAD CRAZY AGAINST THE SKY is the 2001 debut album by Brtipop band Captain Soul.
When Captain Soul's debut appeared in 2001, it brought to a close an unfortunate three-year full-length drought in the band's career. Still called Hooverdam, the band issued a few singles before signing a two-album deal with Alan McGee's new London-based Poptones. The bandmembers started fresh, first changing the group's name to Captain Soul before sorting through their solid repertoire to record their debut with Poptones label GM/producer ...
