With its instrumentation of two saxophones, two electric guitars, electric bass, and drums, one might expect EUROPE to sound like some variant of jazz fusion. However, this session is helmed by drummer/downtown icon Paul Motian whose Electric Bebop Band specializes in both the familar and lesser-known compositions of Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Tadd Dameron, and others. And while EUROPE does have an ambiance somewhat evoking fusion--they aren't trying to go backwards stylistically either--this set is still straight-up bebop, with plenty of elegant swing, lively harmonic invention, and brisk (also subtle) interaction between the players.   ...See Full Description

fantastic CD
The only thing better than this CD is hearing Paul Motion live. This CD is exactly what it states to be: Eclectic Bebop. The playing is absolutely superb.
