The original 1979 soundtrack album contained most of Martin Sheen's narration as well as dialogue and sound effects from the movie, functioning more as a souvenir than a musical listening experience and drowning out a lot of Carmine Coppola's music. The new release finally features just the underscore along with other pivotal music cues, including "The End" by the Doors, "Susie Q," and the stirring "Ride of the Valkyries." Originally written for a full orchestra and then realized on synthesizers, the music for Apocalypse Now Redux tends to sound dated and somewhat sterile, even while the recording itself is particularly crisp. Still, it's an interesting and welcome CD (especially for hardcore devotees of the film), even if the "Love Theme" for one of the film's new scenes sticks out like a sore thumb and Mickey Hart's contributions (with the Diga Rhythm Devils) are all too brief. ~ Neil Shurley

Apocalypse Now Redux Soundtrack Songs Apocalypse Now Redux Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) apocalypse now soundtrack Excellent! Glad I own it...lots of scary music...turn lights out...put music on...be scared... Submitted by RAYALA3 (tampa fl) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Like the movie, great with some reservations... A nice clean recording of most of the music without the dialogue, plus two new tracks that were not on a similar European release several years ago. Plus there are finally some real liner notes with comments by Francis Ford Coppola, photos, and some track information.
Despite these plusses and the impressive achievement that this music represented in its day, there are some disappointments. There remain some differences to the music heard in the film. For example, this disk, as all Apocalypse Now soundtracks before it, still inexplicably lacks the end title cue.
Still, this disk is a must for fans of synthetic music from this era or if you own only the previous Apocalypse Now soundtrack in which the dialogue obscures so much of the music. Submitted by a reviewer (Fort Collins, CO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
