$8.49 At this stage of her career Mariah Carey does not need to prove herself, but her voice is so powerful that with each new recording she, once again, reminds you: "Listen to what I can do." Vocal gymnastics and Christmas songs are not often thought of as a compatible combination, but on ...
| | Rammstein Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da CDs (2009) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Live At Hapa's album
$17.79 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE ...
| | Lady Gaga Fame Monster CDs (2009) Deluxe Edition
Live At Hapa's CD music
$16.00 Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act as a bridge from the debut to a forthcoming full-length. Everything on The Fame Monster bears a galvanized Eurotrash finish, as evident ...
| | Early Tapes Of The Beatles CD (1970)
Live At Hapa's music CDs
$9.79 IN THE BEGINNING features The Beatles first recordings for Polydor Records Germany as backup band for English singer Tony Sheridan. The album also features 4 tracks by Sheridan backed up by The Beat Brothers.
Includes liner notes by Tony Sheridan, George Harrison, and Bill Harry.
Much is made of the Beatles' formative years in Hamburg during the early '60s, and rightly so--tapes of their sessions during the time are rare, and find the band at their most primitive. However, this is anything but a fault--one of the most storied aspects of the Beatles was their explosive energy, the boundless enthusiasm fostered by their first glimpse of popularity. THE EARLY TAPES finds the young Beatles reining in that energy for their first professional recording gigs, overseen by legendary bandleader Bery Kaempfert.
The Beatles were originally called upon as a backup band for crooner Tony Sheridan for these sessions; Kaempfert was taken by Sheridan's cool, rockabilly-inflected voice, and the Beatles took the studio opportunity to record a few tunes ...
| | Flaming Lips Finally, The Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid CDs (2002)
Live At Hapa's songs
$27.65 Finally, the Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid is the first, and largest, of two archival sets from Restless which collects nearly all the material released by the Flaming Lips before they left independent rock for one of the most unexpected major-label deals in history. Over the course of three discs, it tells the story of what Wayne Coyne calls "a talentless, inexperienced, poorly conceived, poorly equipped drug damaged group of friends and family who had an enthusiasm for punk, new wave and classic rock." It's difficult to argue with any assessment from the notoriously honest Coyne, and especially so based on much of this material. It begins with the band's debut EP from 1984, five rockers that certainly aren't pedestrian, but also don't make much sense. Coyne's brother Mark -- later the subject of the classic "Put the Waterbug in the Policeman's Ear" -- takes lead vocals, but disappears by the time of the Lips' first album, Hear It Is, which encompasses the straightahead acid-rocker "With You" as well as more addled material like the epic (in length) "Jesus Shootin' Heroin" and "Charlie Manson Blues." Oh My Gawd!!!... from 1987 and Telepathic Surgery from 1989 are even less straight-ahead than previous work; the band basically used these albums as sounding boards for all the studio- and effects-experimentation that would only pay off later in their career. Still, though Coyne has less control over his voice, and the band attempts prog ...
| | Clarence White Tuff And Stringy Sessions 1966-68 CD (2003)
Live At Hapa's album
$15.09 Though this is by no means the best of Clarence White's guitar work -- or even necessarily the best of his session work from 1966-1968 -- it's an important document of no less than 26 rare tracks predating his joining the Byrds. These recordings, often but not always released on the Bakersfield International label (in fact a few were previously unreleased), find White perfecting his transition to the electric guitar and country-rock from bluegrass. The confusing aspect of this phase of his career, on record anyway, is that White's presence is the only real thread running through these recordings, most (though not all) of which feature him only as a session man, rather than as the billed or featured artist. It's quite a crazy quilt of disparate tracks, combining, in varying degrees, country, ...
