Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re From Nepal to Kenya, from Australia to Brazil, people try to cope with the changes that have altered their landscape, crowding them together and speeding up daily life. The film shows us these alienated people, but also images of traditions--whirling dervishes and Tibetan monks--that offer different, peaceful ways of existence. Shot in 70mm in 24 countries, this awesome musical and visual montage in the tradition of KOYAANISQATSI expresses the global existence of nature and man in the broadest sensory terms. Ron Fricke, who shot, edited and developed the conception of the film, formerly worked as a cameraman for Geoffrey Reggio, whose films "Koyaanisqatsi" and "Powaqqatsi" similarly set images to music to examine contemporary life.
The film was shot with specially developed 70mm cameras.
Filmed in Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Hawaii, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Nepal, New York, Poland, Thailand, and Turkey.

The 3rd in the series? I read a review of this movie and it was supposed to be the 3rd in the series with POWAQQATSI and KOYAANISQATSI, but was not. No Philip Glass music and no where near as engaging or thought provoking as the other movies mentioned. Doubt that I will watch this as much as the other two. Stunning!!!!!!!! Baraka is quite possibly the most moving piece of film I have ever seen. Even without spoken word it delivers a strong message so clearly. Both beautiful and disturbing, I can only say that everyone should, at some point in their lives, see this film. Submitted by freetibet4ever (Auburn, Maine, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Magnificent! This is a movie that shows the big truth about the "progress" humans have made in this world which looks like it should be a real paradise under the big cinematography of Ron Fricke.
It's true film-making, grand and meaningful. It defines us well, somewhat to our shame. Oh, what we could be. Submitted by Boatsy (Key West FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Baraka film
$9.75 In lieu of presenting a factual and unbiased portrait of Nazi Germany during World War II, the A NEWSREEL HISTORY OF THE THIRD REICH series actually consists of distorted propaganda footage, shot and edited by the Nazis in such a way that it was intended to give German citizens a more glowing picture of the Reich's progress and development in the Second World War. The footage was collected by the Russians in 1945 and now appears, edited together, in this unique series. The 17th volume covers events from early 1944, including Rommel's inspections of fortifications and troops on the coast of the English channel, the sequence of events on the Western front, and the preparations of the Berlin-based military against bombing raids.
This series includes unique footage plundered by Russian Troops in 1945. This volume deals with early 1944. It covers events on all the German fronts including: Western Front - Rommel inspects the troops and fortifications along the Channel coast; Home Front - preparations in Berlin against bomber raids. Included is The D-Day Landings.
| | Of Time And The City DVD (2009) Widescreen
Baraka review
$18.79 Acclaimed British filmmaker Terence Davies revisits the city of his youth in the elegiac documentary OF TIME AND THE CITY. A deeply personal evocation of post-World War II Liverpool, the film is a patchwork visual poem woven from archival footage, a mash-up of classical and pop music standards, and Davies’s own incantations--delivered in his lugubrious, at times overwrought, elocution. Revealing a caustic wit and a biting contempt for institutions such as the Catholic Church and British royalty, the director underscores his hatred of such symbols by depicting images of the environs of Liverpool’s working class, an environment that Davies sneers at as demonstrating "the British genius for the dismal." From the decay of government-built council houses to the crumbling edifices of shipyards, Davies chooses to stare down an urban landscape that echoes his own troubled past. Davies speaks candidly of his own childhood experiences, from the specter of Catholic guilt and the "dark desires" of homosexuality awakened at professional wrestling matches, to the rapture of seeing Hollywood films and musicals--pain and pleasure the filmmaker has sought to come to terms with his whole adult life. Connecting a deeply personal biographical lens to the universal notion of time, place, and home, OF TIME AND THE CITY depicts the psychic dissonance of arriving 35 years later in a city where the ravages of urban blight and rapid gentrification have rendered it completely and utterly transformed.
A beautiful visual poem. A love song and a eulogy to the director's birthplace of Liverpool with images which speak, a layered soundtrack of popular and classical music, voices, radio clips and a poignant voiceover by director Terence Davies.

Baraka DVD
$23.19 In his stunning documentary, Australian photographer, filmmaker, and adventurer Frank Hurley captures the astonishing true story of Sir Ernest Shackelton's ill-fated two-year Antarctic expedition aboard the ship, the Endurance. In July 1914, Shackleton and his twenty-eight-man crew (including Hurley) sailed from England for Antarctica, hoping to be the first explorers to cross the continent. However, eighty miles from land, the Endurance became locked in impenetrable pack ice. For the next nine months, the crew desperately tried to cut "leads," and batter through to open water. Hurley's glorious images show the ghostly Endurance landlocked in unremitting white ice, as far as the eye can see. In August of 1915, the crew and their seventy sleigh dogs were forced to abandon the Endurance as the pressure of the ice began crushing the ship. The crew was able to row to Elephant Island, where twenty-two remained, while Shackelton and five others attempted the desperate eight hundred mile voyage to inhabited South Georgia Island. Miraculously, all of the men survived the two-year ordeal, and Hurley was able to save 150 of his 400 glass plate negatives and all of his film reels to provide this dazzling documentation of the Endurance's harrowing experience.

| | 911 Mysteries - Part 1: Demolition DVD (2007)
Baraka video
$8.69 This film is a careful deconstruction of the official story set alongside clean, clear science. It is 90 minutes of pure demolition evidence and analysis, laced with eye opening witness testimonials. The 9/11 picture is not one of politics or nationalism or loyalty, but one of strict and simple physics: how do you get a 10-second, 110-story pancake collapse? Just the facts and mysteries are covered. Included are Willie Rodriguez's recollection of strange noises on the 34th floor and Scott Forbes' similar story. Also included is the story of the blasting itself; how shaped charges are strategically placed to slice through steel beams. Can jet fuel perform such a feat?
