A medieval literature professor infected with HIV and thinking about the inheritance he will leave behind returns to Barcelona intent on passing on his inheritance to his brightest student, but the gift is refused. The two become embroiled in a tenuous, sexually-heated relationship, complicated by the presence of the professor's best friend and his pregnant daughter. The five characters, caught in a race against the clock, struggle against the tides of affection and passion they feel for each other. A terminally ill, gay professor tries to get his friends and students to read his latest manuscript, and struggles with his attraction to David, a young man who also works as a hustler for extra money. David is also involved with Alba, a lonely young woman. All these characters struggle to find meaning within the relationships in their lives. A touching, powerful film from Spain, BELOVED/ FRIEND is a fascinating experience.

Beloved Friend video
$8.99 MILLENNIUM was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year and for Best Pop Vocal Album. "I Want It That Way" was nominated for Record Of The Year and for Song Of The Year.
"Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
The Backstreet Boys self-titled 1997 debut album endeared the group to millions of teens and pre-teens with its radio-friendly blend of pop harmonies and danceable beats. MILLENNIUM finds the Boys in the unenviable position of following up the mind-blowing success of the first album. Less ambitious artists might wither under such pressure, but the Backstreet Boys beat the dreaded sophomore slump in style. In the tradition of the debut, the album is a combination of romantic ballads guaranteed to make your little sister sob, and syncopated, eminently danceable, upbeat tunes. Throughout, it's the rich combination of the members' voices that creates the distinctive sound the group's legion of fans has grown to love. Most notably though, there is an added maturity ...
| | Faith Hill Breathe CD (1999)
Beloved Friend film
$10.29 Faith Hill won the 2000 CMA Award for Female Vocalist Of The Year.
BREATHE won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "Breathe" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. "Let's Make Love" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. "Breathe" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award in the categories of Best Country Song and Song Of The Year. "The Way You Love Me" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Song.
With her third album, FAITH, Faith Hill tasted pop crossover success--and she evidently liked the taste. BREATHE, Hill's fourth release, takes the pop/country stylings of FAITH to the next level. It's an appealing collection of pop, gospel, R&B, rock, and ballads, with just a bit of country thrown in. The production, featuring Hill's big voice surrounded by booming drums and screaming guitars, is so slick you could skate on it.
Love is the subject of nearly every song, from the exuberant "I Got My Baby," to the soulful "Love Is a Sweet Thing," to the cutesy "The Way You Love Me," with its Beatlesque backing vocals. But while Hill can obviously handle a wide range of material, she sounds best on the quieter, country-flavored numbers, like the title ...

Beloved Friend review
$25.39 Those who aren't familiar with the work of seminal 1980s band The Talking Heads may find themselves becoming instant fans after viewing this incredibly entertaining concert film. It starts with David Byrne stepping out alone on empty stage with an acoustic guitar to sing "Psycho Killer." The rest of the musicians follow one by one and the stage gradually fills to bursting with powerful, tightly orchestrated brilliance. Director Jonathan Demme (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, PHILADEPLPHIA) expertly captures the music's energy, fusing cinema with performance to create ...

Beloved Friend DVD
$20.15 When two gay thugs Angel (Eduardo Noriega) and El Nene (Leonardo Sbaraglia) join a plan to hold up an armored truck with a group of seasoned gangsters, their love and loyalty to each other is tested. Angel is wounded by police gunfire during the robbery, forcing El Nene to kill them all in a fit of rage. Things become complicated when they escape to Uruguay and the police threaten to torture the driver's moll if she doesn't tell them where they are. With their pictures plastered on the cover of every paper, drowning in drugs and alcohol, the gang begins to bicker. Against his boss's wishes El Nene leaves the apartment and roams the streets where he meets a prostitute named Giselle (Leticia Bredice) in whom he begins to trust. Director Marcelo Piñeyro, whose films have been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, is one of the most important figures in contemporary cinema in Argentina. His fourth film is a delicate balance of a gripping bloodbath and a moving, tender love story. BURNT MONEY is based on a book by Ricardo Piglia and was inspired by a true story of a famous bank robbery in Buenos Aires in the 1960s.
This film was screened in April 2001 at the Walter Reade Theater in New ...
