Monte Montgomery takes the challenge of being a male soloist well, creating a great mix of vocals and instruments to form many different sounds in his latest collection of modern electric blues music. While from the beginning it appears that the album will fall into a repetitious sound, making every song sound alike, Montgomery quickly breaks from that pattern to really create a solid mix of music. While the subjects of his songs vary -- from relationships in the first track, "Tug of War," to many others -- what the songs do have in common is their masterful lyrics. Montgomery has the songwriting ability to tell a story fluidly, without the overuse of chorus lines and repetition. In an age of poor songwriting, it is refreshing to open the liner notes and see magical and lengthy poetry. Perhaps the best example, as well as the best track on the album, is "Erased," a slower song that sounds very similar to a middle-aged Bob Dylan. A hopeful song with a catchy sound, it really draws the listener in as well as highlights Montgomery's vast vocal talents. Of course, this album isn't all about the lyrics. "Bagpipe" is a wonderful instrumental piece that combines great acoustic and electric guitar playing with some catchy percussion sounds. It is a nice break in the record, giving the listener a break from Montgomery's voice, while at the same time showing off his and his bandmates' instrumental talents as they create a great bagpipe sound, without actually playing the instrument. A true highlight for this record. Montgomery ends the album on a high note, with a somewhat fast-paced and upbeat song, "Radio Girl." It is unlike the other tracks in that it has a jazzy sound, leaving the listener feeling good after the record completes. This comes after the marathon song, "All on Me," which combines unbelievable electric guitar with Montgomery's voice and a nice chorus background. On an album that mixes vocals with instruments so well, this is a perfect track, because it does both of those things so well, for over seven minutes. ~ Shawn Nicholls

| Wishing Well Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Somewhat dissappointed This wasn't as good as his previous release "Mirror". I was dissappointed that it didn't have the punch that the other one had. Although, he can put on an awesome performance on stage! If he is ever in your area, don't miss it. You won't be dissappointed. Submitted by a reviewer (Lafayette, LA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Cd I Love alot of the songs....I only dislike 2 songs on the CD.It's nice to get a CD and not feel like you wasted your money on one that you only wind up likeing 2-3 songs. Thanks to Cd universe for getting me such a good deal on it. Everywhere else locally it costs more $$$. We love Monte and see him whenever we can. Submitted by a reviewer (Lago Vista, Tx) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
ABSOLUTELY GENIUS I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM BECAUSE A FRIEND OF MINE HAD IT IN HIS CAR AND I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY WHAT I HEARD. I DIDN'T KNOW WHO MONTE WAS BUT YOU CAN BET I DO NOW! HIS MUSIC IS MOST UNIQUE WITH MATURE LYRICS AND SUPERIOR MUSICAL ARRANGEMENT. SINCE I GOT THIS ALBUM I ALSO ALSO PURCHASED HIS TWO PREVIOUS ONES. HIS GUITAR WORK IS OUTSTANDING AND I RECOMMEND MONTE TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR TRULY GOOD MUSIC. Submitted by a reviewer (SAN ANTONIO, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The genius of Monte Montgomery Monte Montgomery is simply the best performer in rock/pop music today. Period. The best guitar player I have ever seen (better than Jimi, Clapton, etc.), with strong vocals and great songwriting. This triple threat doesn't disappoint on his latest album. Get it. Get all his albums. But as good as they all are (and they're all great), his live shows are better. The best rock/pop act you will ever see.

Wishing Well

| | Monte Montgomery Mirror CD (1999)
Wishing Well
$12.89 This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
There are 11 tracks on Mirror, reflecting a wide range of styles and melody, each with its own charms and hooks. All of the songs were written by Monte Montgomery, proving that he is not only one of Texas' finest guitarists, he is also a top-notch songwriter.
From the catchy pop of "Hopin' That You'd Slow Down" to the beautiful "Magnolia," and at all points in between, "Mirror" stands as one fine album. There are hints of Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, and, of course, Mark Knopfler, but Monte is far and away his own man when it comes to his music. There are subtle hints at influences, but he doesn't really sound like anyone you've ever heard before, and that is the primary draw here. That's what sucks you in, like a hyperactive Hoover.
"I Know You By Heart" is a radio-ready pop tune if ever there was one, featuring ...
| | Peter Frampton Now CD (2003)
Wishing Well
$13.35 "I'm back" acknowledges Peter Frampton in the song of the same name from his first studio album in nine years. But even though Frampton claims he had complete control over every aspect of this release, the results show that maybe a good A&R person should have been hired for consultation. While this is undoubtedly a Frampton disc, complete with strummy ballads, a handful of harder-edged tunes, and lots of shimmering guitar solos, songs like the riff rocker "I'm Back" -- ...

| | Tommy Alverson Country To The Bone CD (2007) Digipak
Wishing Well
$11.79 Here are some things country artists should generally avoid: songs about how "country" they are, songs about the fact that they're from Texas, and songs in which they compare themselves to Hank Williams. Most can (and some do) get away with one, or maybe two of those errors on a single album, but if you hit the trifecta you're in trouble. And if you do it while singing only occasionally on pitch, you're in even more trouble. That's exactly where Tommy Alverson finds himself on Country to the Bone, an album that compounds the first mistake by naming itself after a rather preachy and obnoxious song that explains what it means to be "country," and one on which Alverson pitches his songs consistently at ...
