Canadian edition of the Mahogany Rush frontman's long awaited 2000 album. Haunting vocals, melodic guitar solos & sign of the times lyrics combined with solid drum beats & Arabic guitar tones make Eye Of The Storm a winner. Frank's true musical influences shine brightly on almost every cut. The Doors, Santana & even Pink Floyd are prevalent. Tracks include, 'He's Calling', 'Avalon' & 'Since You Came Into My Life'.
Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush includes: Frank Marino (guitar); Mick Layne (guitar); Peter Dowse (bass); Dave Goode (drums).
There were two predominant views of Frank Marino in the '70s. The first was that he fit into the guitar hero group of such people as Pat Travers, Ted Nugent, and Robin Trower. The second was that he was a bit of a Jimi Hendrix clone. Well, 2001 sees Marino releasing Into the Storm with his longtime group Mahogany Rush. It also shows that the guitar hero title still fits, although perhaps the guitar heroes of today differ from those of the '70s. Marino's sound certainly fits into his era more than the 2000s, but that does not stop him from producing a killer album. His guitar textures are not too flashy, but very tasteful. As to the Hendrix reference, those influences can be heard on occasion, but really Marino has his own sound. This release is a very strong rock album that even touches on sounds as far away from Hendrix as ELP and Tomita. In fact, the first cut on the piece, an instrumental introduction sort of number, really seems to blend the sound of both of those groups in an arrangement that feels a bit like a take on Mars, from Holtz' The Planets. Marino is back, and back in style. ~ Gary Hill

| Eye Of The Storm Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Frank is still the Best!! I'm a guitar freak, been playin since 1977, totally inspired by MH4, and Frank Marino, who I rank up there, with
Frank Zappa,RIP, Steve Vai, Jimi Hendrix,RIP, Robin Trower, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Page, Ted Nugent, etc.
It is incredibly hard to find Mahogany Rush's music in Nebraska!! Thanx CD universe, for providing access to the greatest rock n roll records of all time. Eye of the Storm, is incredibly powerful, yet smooth, and spacey...just the way I like it!! Hot Spots include
Eye of the Storm, Learned My Lesson Well,[story of my life, lol], Window to the World, and Avalon. I think we see Frank's music mature, and relax, with more emphasis on the phrasing, and melody voice leading, and in the end,
Frank gives us a shining masterpiece, by the the best guitarist in the world!! Submitted by blujam (Fremont Nebraska USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Marino Is Back With A Vengence !! I had put off purchasing this release, because I knew it couldn't live up to expectations....Man was I WRONG! This Cd totally blew me away. From the opening cut, it blends hard riffs with hyptonic rythms and almost jazzy jam. Get this CD and you'll be in for a great ride is classic Marino style. Good music in 2001? I happened to hear Frank Marino's stuff by accident and then I found a site where you could listen to anything he did for free. I heard some of this stuff and I knew I had to buy the album. So I ordered it online somewhere and I couldn't wait for it to come in. I thought rock and roll died before the 90s. But this is really good.
Heat of the Moment is my favorite on this CD. It goes into a long solo with 3 or 4 guitars and some really (forgive the language) groovy bass. It also includes one of my favorite guitar chords ever. He's Calling has some really good lead guitar and is a great rock song. Eye of the Storm is almost a combination of classic rock and some newer electro stuff. It's also a great song. Ordinary Man is another catchy song with a simple, but addictive bass line. Since You Came into My Life is another good song. It's about his daughters. Avalon is an instrumental that's pretty good to listen to. Learned My Lesson Well and Window to the World are okay songs but are mostly filler. Storm Warning is nearly 3 minutes of sound effects. It remind of me FX, by Black Sabbath. I always skip over it.
Overall, definately worth buying. I don't buy many CDs but it was worth whatever I paid for this. And there are no offensive lyrics and he even thanks Jesus Christ in the sleeve.
If you miss classic rock (and I'm not talking about Rolling Stones, but more like Rush and Ted Nugent's jazzier songs), buy this and you won't be disappointed. Submitted by Cameron Jones (Garfield, AR.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Like he's never been out of the spotlight Frank's latest recording show the rock n roll world that Frank has never been gone far. His guitar playing talent shows what a guitar is and how it should be played. Being a personal friend of Frank, he is a wonderful and very talented musician who shines as bright as he did on the stage at Cal Jam II. Submitted by Andrew (Seguin, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? $10.49 Although they'd managed to become bona fide second-division stars in England, where their incomparably heavy brand of Southern rock and devastating live performances had thrilled nostalgic Skynyrd disciples and open-minded metalheads alike, Blackfoot had made dispiritingly little commercial headway in their own backyard: the American market. So as pressure mounted to deliver a hit for their label, Atco, Rickey Medlocke decided to invite former Uriah Heep keyboard player Ken Hensley to join the band -- a calculated move intended to modernize the group's sound for the synth-happy 1980s. But 1983's Siogo, though seemingly a passable compromise, still failed to yield any hits, so Blackfoot ...

Eye Of The Storm songs
$10.59 Evening with John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess is an unheralded recording by Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment alumnus John Petrucci, and Jordan Rudess is a unique entry in the Dream Theater family discography. Recorded live in Nyack, New York, the duo performed a mixed set of acoustic and electric (guitar only) compositions. Both players are world-class musicians, but Rudess in particular demonstrates his ...

$18.05 When headbanger historians look back on the important heavy metal and hard rock bands that were active during the '70s, Mahogany Rush's name doesn't come up nearly as often as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Kiss, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Blue Öyster Cult or Aerosmith -- and that is regrettable because Frank Marino led one of the '70s' most exciting hard rock/metal outfits. Mahogany Rush is, without question, underrated. Walk past a Hard Rock Café, and it isn't uncommon to hear Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" or Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" being blasted -- but how often will a Hard Rock Café expose pedestrians to something by Mahogany Rush? Regardless, Marino ...
