Customer Driven Reviews DVD

Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) 5 stars

5 stars Wow I felt like I was there in the driver's seat!
There have been a lot of 'speed' movies over the last few years, before and since 'Driven', but none come close to the thrills of being there in the driver's seat giving you the gut feeling of what it must be like to drive such powerful machines made for speed. The plot is fairly lite and too easy to follow, but the special effects are supurb as these machines come apart before your very eyes during breath taking crashes.

Based on the journals of Brother Gaspar de Carvajal, AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD is director Werner Herzog's hallucinatory tale of Spanish colonialists searching for El Dorado, the legendary city of gold, in 16th-century Peru. When the travellers reach an impasse, a scouting party is assembled to search for any traces of the mythical empire. As they attempt to forge their way through the dense jungle, more and more of the party falls ill while their ruthless leader, Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski), grows increasingly insane. Widely considered to be Herzog's finest film, AGUIRRE, which shares much in common with Francis Ford Coppola's APOCALYPSE NOW, ...

Detroit cop Orin Byrd (Steven Seagal) plays by his own rules. He knows what's right and what's wrong, and like Clint Eastwood's Harry Callahan, he doesn't mind leaving a little destruction in his wake as long as he gets the job done. But after saving the vice president from a militia group in a high-tech bridge battle that features the requisite car explosions and plenty of fancy weaponry, he gets busted down to a low-rent neighborhood where he is soon playing crossing guard. But he has a nose for trouble, so when he begins to suspect that some of the cops in his department are getting down and dirty with drug kingpin Latrell Walker (DMX), he is ready to take action--even if he has to go it alone, against the orders of his commander (Jill Hennessy). Cinematographer-turned-director Andrzej Bartkowiak (ROMEO MUST DIE) shows off his keen eye in EXIT WOUNDS as Seagal and DMX battle it out on the Detroit streets. The pounding hip-hop soundtrack (featuring a number of contributions from DMX and Drag-On, who also appears in the film) and fabulous stunts, keep the excitement moving at a fast pace as the corruption--and the body count--continues to mount. But Anthony Anderson, playing Walker's right-hand man, T.K., nearly walks away with the film, supplying comic relief even through much of the closing credits. Steven Seagal stars as maverick Detroit police detective Orin Boyd, whose take-no-prisoners ...

George Jung (Johnny Depp) doesn't want to live like his father (Ray Liotta)--always short of money and constantly berated by his mother (Rachel Griffiths). So he sets off for California to live on the beach, where he finds he can make a living selling drugs. Soon George's drug dealing business expands into shipping drugs across the country. Needing a bigger supply of drugs, he travels to Columbia and meets Pablo Escobar (Cliff Curtis). Before long, George becomes the biggest trafficker of cocaine in the United States. In BLOW, director Ted Demme and scriptwriters Nick Cassevetes and David McKenna chart George's strange course into a world of girls and sun, drugs and fun. It's all so easy until events change George's life forever. Depp gives one of his best performances as George, instilling the character with a complicated mixture of emotions. For the supporting roles, Demme's eccentric casting includes German ...

Flanked by fabulous computer-generated battle scenes that would make BRAVEHEART proud, THE MUMMY RETURNS is a fast-paced sequel that surpasses the hit 1999 original, both directed by Stephen Sommers. Virtually the entire cast has come back for another exciting go-round, this time trying to prevent Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) from gaining control of the Bracelet of Anubis and taking on the Scorpion King (the Rock) for control of the world. But to gain that power, Imhotep and his vicious true love, Anck-Su-Namun (Patricia Velasquez), must get to the Oasis of Ahm Shere before Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser), his wife, Evie (Rachel Weisz), their son, Alex (Freddie Boath), the mysterious Ardeth Bay (Oded Fehr), and Evie's brother, Jonathan (John Hannah, who provides much of the comic relief). Set in 1933, THE MUMMY RETURNS combines elements of the STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES films in letting loose a scintillating thrill-ride of a movie, chock-full of terrific special effects and marvelous locations (Morocco, Jordan, and London), erupting in a spirited tale of flight and fantasy, sword and sorcery. The addition of Freddie Boath to the cast increases the suspense as well as the comedy; his scenes with the evil Lock-Nah (fiercely played by OZ veteran Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) are among the best in the film. THE MUMMY RETURNS also features professional wrestler the Rock as the Scorpion King, who was defeated ...

Star John Travolta revisits the grinning villain territory he explored in BROKEN ARROW and FACE/OFF with this stylish, supercharged techno-thriller. He plays Gabriel, a charismatic, fast-living mystery man who, with help from his right-hand woman, Ginger (Halle Berry), recruits ex-con and former master hacker Stan (Hugh Jackman) to aid in a plan to steal billions from a secret government bank account. Stan reluctantly agrees to help in order to finance the legal battle for custody of his young daughter (Camryn Grimes). Meanwhile an FBI computer crimes specialist (Don Cheadle) is determined to find out what's about to go down, and plans to use Stan to find out. The movie amply earns its keep by cleverly zig-zagging away from audience's expectations and delivering many clever, pulse-pounding action set pieces--including an incredible opening explosion, a car chase through downtown Los Angeles replete with blazing machine guns, and a spectacular airborne climax. With the help of a propulsive electronica score by DJ Paul Okenfold, director Dominic ...

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) drives the streets of L.A. as if he owns them. As far as his crew is concerned, he does. The races are street theater, tribal gathering and battlefield, fuelled by adrenaline and out-of-control speed. Brian (Paul Walker) is ready to test the limits. He seeks Dominic's approval. After a blazing encounter with ruthless Johnny Tran (Rick Yune), Dominic decides Brian is all right. Dominic's sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) likes what she sees, too. The thing is, they don't know he's a cop. Brian is under cover, investigating a series of big-rig hijackings. Dominic and Johnny are both suspects. As the rivalry between Dominic's and Johnny Tran's crews esc THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS is a nitro-burning joyride that makes outstanding use of special effects, innovative camera work, and a nonstop throbbing soundtrack. From the opening sequence--a high-speed, high-tech truck robbery--the film never drops below the red line. Roaring along at breakneck speed, Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew meet on the streets of L.A. each night to show off their high-powered racers. When new guy Brian (Paul Walker) wants to add his fuel to the fire, he can't cough up the cash to race, but offers up his car as collateral. In their tiny jacked compacts, Dom, Brian, and Edwin (Ja Rule) burst into a high-gear race with Brian nearly beating perennial champion Dom. But in the final moments, he loses the race and his car. Brian's debt is quickly cleared, however, when he saves Dom ...
