Animated; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Kris Kringle (Mickey Rooney) is a young boy with an immense desire to do good things for others. In his home village of Sombertown, Kris has started a gift factory where he builds toys and gives them to all the local children. But when the evil ruler Burgermeister Meisterburger (Paul Frees) bans toys from the land, Kris is forced to go directly to Mother Nature and beseech her for assistance. With the help of magical elves and several special reindeer, Kris works hard to overcome the Burgermeister and deliver toys to all the children of the world, earning him the name Saint Claus, or Santa Claus. This timeless tale by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin is narrated by Fred Astaire.
One of the first Rankin-Bass Christmas specials (it was preceded by THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY in 1968), SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN received acclaim from both children and adults alike and spawned a number of similar films, including THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF SANTA CLAUS and THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS. The movie's detailed, macabre stop-action puppets and gothic tinge were clearly an influence on Henry Selick and Tim Burton's THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, and it remains an important animated film to the moviemakers of today. Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town Video Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) The Best Christmas Special; by far. The is the entire historical tale of Santa, from his birth to his old age, and how all of those familiar things we know about him came to be. Wonderfully told by Fred Astaire.
For those of us in our 30's and early 40's, we laugh when we here the name Burgermeister Meisterburger. I just recently watched this for the first time in many years, and had forgotten how incredible this one really is. The musical score is nothing short of a masterpeice, by far the best music of all the Christmas specials. Songs like "There'll be no more Toymakers to the King" that the Burgermeister and Grimsly sing is one of the all time greats (not just in Christmas specials). And Jessica's song "My World" with the sixties tye-dye overtones is just delightful (always cut out in the TV version). And the "If you sit on my lap today" by Mickey Rooney is so catchy (that touching melody plays thoughout the special). And of course there's the tune everyone remembers most; "Put One Foot In Front of the Other", that Kris and Winter sing. Truly magical. There will never be another Christmas special ever made that will rival this one. A must have.
Classic lines:
Mr. Warlock says: "You musn't mind the tree monsters; their bark is worse than their bite"
Winter says; "I'm crowded!!! But at least I'm loved."
Kris says to Jessica; "Watch out for that dolly; she's a hardened criminal."
Burgermeister says; I've been bamboozelled!"
Winter says "I still have a little magic in me; I'm not such a loser after all!" Submitted by Pete (ROCKY POINT, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town movie DVD
$9.95 Trans-Siberian Orchestra includes: Paul O'Neill (conductor). In 2004, Trans-Siberian Orchestra finished their "Christmas trilogy" with the massive -- some would say ponderous -- The Lost Christmas Eve. Wasting none of the holiday season's precious shopping time, the Christmas Trilogy box set landed two weeks after that album, giving the band's loyal fan base a set to give -- some would say inflict -- to their friends. Then again, maybe they'll just want to hold on to the set since there's a DVD with appearances by Jewel and Michael Crawford and the lavishly illustrated booklet includes all the lyrics and background stories. You really should dabble in Trans-Siberian's dramatic, huge world of Christmas music through the eyes of classic rock before laying down the money for the set. If you just need a bit of this 60-piece, the first album is the most inspired, but it's not enough for most who get hooked. Although the next two albums gave diminishing returns, Trans-Siberian producer/mastermind Paul O'Neill kept pouring his heart into the music and always offered some genuine thrills. Great presentation and a packed DVD make up for a lot of note-spinning on ...
| | Brian Setzer Dig That Crazy Christmas CD (2005)
Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town video
$7.09 Personnel: Brian Setzer (vocals, guitar); Julie Reiten (vocals); Kevin Norton (rap vocals). Audio Mixers: Chris Lord-Alge; John Holbrook. Recording information: Capitol Studios, Hollywood, CA; The Village Recorder; Unit A. Illustrator: Andy Engel. Arrangers: Brian Setzer; Willie Murillo; Mark Anthony Jones. As Brian Setzer's second Christmas record in three years -- apparently his Surfdog labelmate Gary Hoey has been rubbing off on him -- it should come as no great surprise that Dig That Crazy Christmas sounds a little bit familiar. It follows the same form as 2002's Boogie Woogie Christmas, as Setzer blasts through several familiar carols, tosses in a handful of obscure rockers and blues numbers, does a couple of instrumentals, and throws it all into a Louis Prima blender so it comes out sounding a bit like Doc Severinsen's Tonight Show band with tattoos. While that's neither fresh nor surprising, it isn't bad. At times, it's a little more shuck-and-jive ...
