A profound guitar innovator and neglected folk hero, Robbie Basho studied with Ali Akbar Khan and began recording for John Fahey's influential Takoma Records in the fertile 1960s. Basho helped to created a six- and 12-string guitar genre before one even existed. His legacy has reached cult status, even inspiring another guitarist to adopt his method and put out six- and 12-string albums. BASHOVIA includes Basho's epic composition "The Falconer's Arm." Here, Basho is able to spread out fully, releasing an intricate combination of Asian and classical modalities. Against the dissonant steel strings, Basho's dexterous finger-picking of open-tuned ragas transports the listener to other realms. Absolutely necessary for sonic travelers, this album offers some of this best solo guitar music available. BASHOVIA places Robbie Basho in the pantheon of all-time greats.

1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.
Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better off opting for A New World Record over its successor, however, as a more modest-sized creation chock full of superb songs that are produced even better. Opening with the opulently orchestrated "Tightrope," which heralds the perfect production found throughout ...
| | Electric Light Orchestra Face The Music CD (1975) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Expanded Edition

$7.59 Also available in a 3-pack with A NEW WORLD RECORD and DISCOVERY.
Master Sound releases are 24-karat gold CDs remastered from first-generation masters. This process utilizes 20-bit technology and Sony's revolutionary "Super Bit Mapping" system.
ELO was big enough by 1974 that some people actually suggested that ELDORADO featured Satanic backward-masking. Of course, the idea was ludicrous; but the band playfully responded by adding a backward message to "Fire on High," the opening instrumental on 1975's FACE THE MUSIC.
Besides "Fire on High," which was used as background music for countless television programs in the '70s, this album's eight lengthy tracks include two enormous hits, "Evil Woman" and the McCartneyesque ballad "Strange Magic." Decades later, these two tracks are still in constant rotation on classic-rock radio around the world. Those three songs defined the new sound of ELO. Gone were ...
| | Electric Light Orchestra On The Third Day CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Expanded Edition
Bashovia album
$7.59 In some ways, 1973's ON THE THIRD DAY is the first "true" ELO album. Though co-founder Roy Wood had left the band to form the more experimental Wizzard after the first album, his influence was still all over 1972's ELO II, especially on the orchestrated cover of Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven." ON THE THIRD DAY, however, is pure Jeff Lynne, the first album completely devoted to his soon-to-be ...

| | John Denver Back Home Again (Rca) CD (1974) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Bashovia songs
$7.59 As the 1970s progressed, John Denver slowly moved away from the melancholy folk-singer mode that characterized his early albums and towards a brighter, more country-inflected sound. BACK HOME AGAIN crystallizes the latter phase, and consequently proved one of Denver's most commercially successful albums. In large part, this has to do with the ...
