| | Tribute To Queen CD
Also available with BLACK NIGHT: A TRIBUTE TO DEEP PURPLE and THUNDERBOLT: A TRIBUTE TO AC/DC in the set A TRIBUTE TO THE MASTERS VOLUME 2.
Fans of the name guitarists will appreciate Dragon Attack: A Tribute to Queen for the assemblage. Present are Robbie Krieger (the Doors), Jake E. Lee, Yngwie Malmsteen, and many more. The standout track is Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead), Ted Nugent, and Rudy Sarzo (Whitesnake) on "Tie Your Mother Down." While there is not one take of "Bohemian Rhapsody!," the star personnel is there. Among the bassists are Ricky Phillips (the Babys) and Tony Franklin (the Firm, Blue Murder). Vocal duties by Robin McAuley (Michael Schenker Group), Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt), Glenn Hughes (Black Sabbath), James LaBrie (Dream Theater), and others. Showing up on drums are Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Beck, Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart), Eric Singer (KISS), and Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Oak Arkansas). Other guitarists include John Petrucci (Dream Theater) and Bruce Kulick (KISS). These are, of course only some of the musicians to be found here. Every one of the 11 tracks has a different lineup. The disc closes with "It's Late," fusing Armored Saint and Anthrax members. ~ Tom Schulte

| | Kansas Point Of Know Return CD (1977) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Tribute To Queen CD music
$6.85 The high point of Kansas's long career, 1977's POINT OF KNOW RETURN found the American heartlanders finally striking the perfect balance between complex prog-rock, hard-hitting heavy guitar work, and crafty pop sensibilities. This is perhaps best exemplified by the title cut, a sparkling tune full of jaunty interaction between piano and violin that moves unerringly through some tricky musical maneuvers, while remaining engagingly catchy and accessible. The electrifying riffs that fly around in "Lightning's Hand" and "The Spider" show that the knack for tunes like the previous album's classic "Carry On Wayward Son" had not deserted Kansas. At the same time, thoughtful (but not saccharine) ballads such as "Dust in the Wind" and "Hopelessly Human" make it clear that there was more than flash to the band. Nevertheless, there's honestly impressive ...
| | Lady Gaga Fame Monster CDs (2009) Deluxe Edition
Tribute To Queen music CDs
$16.24 Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act as a bridge from the debut to a forthcoming full-length. Everything on The Fame Monster bears a galvanized Eurotrash finish, as evident on the heavy steel synths of "Bad Romance" and the updated ABBA revision "Alejandro," as it is on the rock & roll ballad "Speechless" -- its big guitars lifted from Noel Gallagher -- and the wonderful, perverse march "Teeth." Even the stuttering splices on "Telephone," a duet with Beyoncé, leans to the other side of the Atlantic, which just emphasizes the otherness that's become Gaga's calling card. And even as she's becoming omnipresent, with her songs mingling with those who co-opt her on the radio, she still ...

| | Lady Gaga Fame CD (2008)
Tribute To Queen album
$9.99 The times were crying out for a pop star like Lady GaGa -- a self-styled, self-made shooting star, one who mocked the tabloid digital age while still wanting to wallow in it -- and one who's smart enough to pull it all off, too. That self-awareness and satire were absent in the pop of the new millennium, where even the best of the lot operated only on one level, which may be why Lady GaGa turned into such a sensation in 2009: everybody was thirsty for music like this, music for and about their lives, both real and virtual. To a certain extent, the reaction to The Fame may have been a little too enthusiastic, with GaGa turning inescapable sometime in the summer of 2009, when she appeared on countless magazine covers while both Weezer and DAUGHTRY covered "Pokerface," the rush to attention suggesting that she was the second coming of Madonna, a comparison GaGa cheerfully courts and one that's accurate if perhaps overextended. Like ...

| | Michael Rother Traumreisen CD (1999)
Tribute To Queen music CDs
$23.29 Michael Rother, a former member of Kraftwerk and Neu, releases his solo work in TRAUMREISEN.
German import contains four bonus tracks: three remixes and the song "Sudseewellen."
By 1987, Michael Rother's music had come a long way from the chaotic, electronic rock & roll of Neu!, but it is easily identifiable as his nonetheless. Rother created his own brand of ambient and trance musics that were, for lack of any other possible term, spherical in their construction and execution. Rother understood that meditative music that touches the body as well as the mind must indeed begin somewhere and return to some approximation of that same place, even if it is much further down the sonic road. His elliptical synth lines and precise, mantra-like guitar riffs are all about drift and return, in pattern and prosaic elocution. Like all of his recordings since Katzenmusick, Rother plays everything here himself. The ...
