After several years of sporadic performances and a handful of tunes featured on obscure tribute albums and movie soundtracks, the Yayhoos have finally released a full-length album. Fear Not the Obvious is indeed a telling title for a collection of blue-collar rock tunes made up of the most basic (in fact almost trite) hooks, chords, and lyrics. The phony country of "Bottle and a Bible" is a complete waste of time, and the good-ole-boy swagger of "Hankerin'" is just embarrassing. But the songs saving Fear Not the Obvious from the bargain bins are many. Eric Ambel's crackling guitar riff makes "Monkey With a Gun" a surefire roadhouse rave-up, the high-octane Keith Richards riffing on "I Can Give You Everything" is as dead-on as the Neil Young-ish drop-D tuning meets the Faces sound of "Cryin' Out Loud." Perhaps the most fun though is the country-rock reading of ABBA's "Dancing Queen," which works surprisingly well and highlights that song's addictive melody. ~ John Duffy

No Depression (9-10/01, pp.133-4) - "...A bash-'em-out collection that anyone who loves bar bands will find impossible to resist..." Fear Not The Obvious Music Yayhoos Fear Not The Obvious Songs Fear Not The Obvious Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Everything I expected! The product was just what I ordered. As usual, shipping was lightening fast and the prices were better than most. If I paid a few pennies more than a couple of other sources it's well worth it. Customer Service @ CD Universe is always top notch, shipping is always fast and selection is always excellent (I've found a couple of albums here in the past that I could not find elsewhere). Wow! Top Quality Roots-Rock that Really Rocks! Any fan of the Georgia Satellites, Steve Earle, alt-country, roots-rock, bar-band rock, ZZ Top before they discovered keyboards, or just good music should get this disc and crank it up. This CD has not left heavy rotation since I bought it nearly a year ago. Includes Dan Baird, singer and leader of the Ga Satellites (you know, "Keep Your Hands to Yourself"). Has a great and funny cover of Abba's "Dancing Queen".

Fear Not The Obvious album
$10.15 TIME (tHE REVELATOR) was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Displaying a remarkable consistency of vision, Gillian Welch sticks to her guns on her third album, by limiting the sonic palette to the twin acoustic guitars and vocals of herself and partner David Rawlings (and a touch of banjo). With all the hip cred she's built up, especially ...

$14.95 "Some people call it depression and I call it a song." That simple observation from "Uncommon Connection," the rollickingly catchy opening track of songwriter/singer John Hiatt's 2003 release BENEATH THIS GRUFF EXTERIOR, sums it up quite sweetly. Hiatt's been channeling glorious depression through ...

| | Swedish Erotica All The Way To The Sun CD (2005) Bonus Track; Japan
Fear Not The Obvious music CDs
$39.09 Swedish Erotica/T.N.T. (Heavy Metal): Tony Harnell (vocals); Ronni Le Tekro (guitar); Diesel Dahl (drums).
On T.N.T.'s 2004 offering, My Religion, this Norway-by-way-of-California band quit their late-'90s attempt to toughen up their melodic/pop-metal style, and embraced the sound of the big '80s once more. And on their next release, 2005's All the Way to the Sun, singer Tony Harnell and guitarist Ronni Le Tekro are back to their old tricks once more. How T.N.T. didn't challenge such MTV darlings as Winger back in the late '80s remains a mystery, as the group mined the same sonic well, and continue to do so to this day, as evidenced by such vintage pop-metal-sounding tracks as "Too Late," "Me & I," and "Sometimes." Despite it sounding like T.N.T. rediscovered the formula to pen tracks that sounded plucked right out of their late-'80s prime (circa 1987's Tell No Tales), All the Way to the Sun would prove to be Harnell's last studio album with the band, as he would ...
