Cary Grant, Jack Good, Leslie Caron, Pip Sparke, Trevor Howard, Verina Greenlaw - Director: Ralph Nelson An Australian beach bum with a strong penchant for drinking finds himself "drafted" by a naval commander to man a strategic observation post in the South Pacific during World War 2. When a French school teacher and her seven female pupils move in with him, a comical battle of the sexes ensues. This World War II comedy stars Cary Grant in an uncharacteristic turn as Walter Eckland. Walter is an unshaven bum who inhabits a deserted island in the South Seas. Completely boozed up, unshaven, and badly dressed, Walter is a watcher for Japanese spy planes. An Australian Navy Commander, Frank Houghton (Trevor Howard) has pressed Walter, who once had his own cruiser at the beginning of the war, to become the sole occupant of a strategic watching station. It is into this world that smart and sexy Catherine Frenau (Leslie Caron) is drawn when Walter, en route in a dinghy to rescue another watcher, stumbles on to the schoolteacher and a flock of seven young girls. The girls have been marooned because their pilot was ordered to leave them to rescue the survivors of an abandoned bomber. Ralph Nelson directs shrewdly and keeps the comedy crisp as these eight survivors try to inhabit the same small island without driving each other crazy. The sharp witted Academy Award winning screenplay by Peter Stone and Frank Tarloff, is based on a story by S.H. Barnett.

WHEN I SAW THIS MOVIE,I WAS A YOUNG GIRL,9YRS OLD.I REMEMBER LAUGHING,AND THE EXCITEMENT OF THE RAGING GUNFIRE COMING FROM THE AIRPLANES,I LOVED HOW THE GIRLS HELPED CLEAN THE BOAT,AND THE ROMANCE,LEADING TO MARRIAGE.

MY FAMILY&I ENJOYED THIS MOVIE VERY MUCH. IT HAD COMEDY,ROMANCE;ACTION ALL IN ONE MOVIE WHICH WAS GREAT. WE WILL PROBIBLY WATCH THIS ON MORE THEN ONCE.

 THE GOOSE IS LOOSE
Most enjoyable little movie, Cary Grant
is the master of this type of film. All
the right elements are here, comedy, romance
action, they simply do not know how to make movies like this anymore. Keep in mind that this film was made before Hollywood discoverd
the computer, so it has lively dialog and good chemistry within in it,s cast.
Trevor Howard, Leslie Caron are delightful.
i recomend this film *****.

This charming comedy from late director-writer-actress Adrienne Shelly is the perfect mix of sweet and sour.
