(1 Customer Review)
INTENSO was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album. "Pueden Decir" was nominated for the 2002 Latin Grammy Award for Best Tropical Song.
Intenso has been accurately considered a salsa album; however, it is appropriate to mention Gilberto Santa Rosa's music influences while making this record, from Spanish flamenco to Cuban son and bolero, and even Latin rock. Intenso features traditional salsa: "Advertencia," "Alguna Parte de Ti," the hit single "Pero No Me Ama," written by Puerto Rican Rafy Monclova, a romantic song called "Mentira," and "Si No Lo Digo Ahora," composed by Cuban Jorge Luis Piloto. Intenso's hybrid sounds turn it into an interesting, experimental tropical album. ~ Drago Bonacich

$5.69 "EXPRESION" was nominated for the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Performance.
Traditional salsa, ballad, funk, and even hip-hop are the ingredients in another excellent Gilberto Santa Rosa production. Imagination runs wild as everything in this recording clicks with excitement. Watch out for "Si No Me Ven Llorando" (arranged by Bobby Valentín) and the lyrical, bittersweet "A la Distancia de un Te Quiero" (arranged by Jeremy Lubbock). ~ José A. Estévez, Jr.

| | Gilberto Santa Rosa Autentico CD (2004) Bonus CD; Limited Edition; Enhanced CD
Intenso music CDs
$9.69 Gilberto Santa Rosa has a career that began in the mid-1970s and an unassailable reputation as one of Puerto Rico's premier soneros, or vocal improvisers. His 2004 album, AUTENTICO, reinforces his status with a collection of tunes that vary from the white-hot attack of "Lo Que Arraso" to the Brazilian-influenced "Ensename a Vivir Sin Ti." The common denominator here is Santa Rosa's nuanced delivery, subtly elegant on the sophisticated after-hours ballad "Sombra Loca" and impassioned on "El Rincon De Mis Ansias," but consistently masterful, whether he's indulging in flights of improvisational fancy or putting his authoritative stamp on a lyric. The arrangements on AUTENTICO are fiery and swinging, with a distinctively traditional Puerto Rican flavor; the vocal and instrumental prowess displayed by Gilberto ...

| | Juan Luis Guerra La Llave De Mi Corazon CD (2007)
Intenso album
$10.95 Juan Luis Guerra gained considerable artistic and commercial stature throughout the 1980s, '90s, and 2000s. Guerra and his band 440 have experimented restlessly over the years, blending musical styles from their native Dominican Republic, such as bachata and merengue, with African-influenced sounds, jazz, R&B, salsa, folk, rock, and commercial pop. LA LAVE DE MI CORAZON (2007) is one of Guerra's strongest efforts, bringing together his adventurous leanings with catchy, accessible songs and excellent, lockstep musicianship. Incessantly upbeat, the album is a joy to listen to, a fact assisted by its beautifully crisp production.
Personnel: Juan Luis Guerra (background vocals); Luisa Payan (steel guitar); Prodigio (accordion); ...
