Buena Vista may have released this brief domestic anthology in reaction to the proliferation of Annette bootlegs in the years since the box set Annette: A Musical Reunion With America's Girl Next Door went out of print. The buyer's incentive with this package is the sparkling remastering job, although a number of hits and essential tracks are omitted. Annette's second-biggest hit, "O Dio Mio," isn't here, and in general the collection concentrates on her later surf'n'sand songs instead of her early pop singles. "Train of Love" is one brilliant example of the latter, and "Let's Get Together" is Annette's version of Hayley Mills' hit (and one of two recordings here that did not appear on the box set). The Best of Annette is merely OK as an overview, but is adequate for fans of her beach movies who are looking for a fun and inexpensive collection. ~ Greg Adams

ANNETTE SHE'S THE BEST AND SHE CAN SING TO. Submitted by daves48 (PETERSBURG VA. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good Voice, Bad Songs Very Bouncy and lively, a good rememberence of her but not very good songs to really show off her voice. Hardly any ballads. For better music look to Leslie Gore, Shelly Fabres, Joannie Summers, Patty Duke, and most of all Connie Francis. Submitted by a reviewer (Miami, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A Fun and Innocent Blast From the Past A nice overview of the musical career of America's sweetheart from the late 50's and early 60's, Annette Funicello. This collection contains selections from her early post Mickey Mouse Club hit making days of "Tall Paul" and "Pineapple Princess", through her tracks from Disney feature films, and finally her "Beach Party" movies days. Great sound, a nice representative sampling and moderately priced. For a low priced overview of Annette's musical career this is the CD to get. Beach Boys backup The best cut is the title song from the Disney film, The Monkey's Uncle. I've never seen the film, but the song has Annette singing lead with the Beach Boys backing her up. Great mid-60s sound! Makes you want to dance. Submitted by Skip (Arlington, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Best Of Annette music CDs
$13.49 Here's a real grab bag of Top 40 hits from 1960 to 1966, some of them indeed very hard to find on CD or even hear on the radio. Some of them are not really not that hard to find on CD, though this disc (like every one in this series) takes pains to present original 45 RPM single versions, often in stereo. It leans toward the innocuous pop side of pop/rock, though within that framework there's a lot of variety and a good amount of quality: slightly soul-influenced pop (Gene McDaniels' "A Hundred Pounds of Clay"), poppy, late doo wop (the Velvets' "Tonight [Could Be the Night]," the Chimes' "Once in a While"), British Invasion pop ...

| | Sting Dream Of The Blue Turtles CD (1985) Enhanced CD
Best Of Annette album
$9.75 Sting had a lot to prove on his first post-Police effort, and he proved himself up to the task of establishing a distinctive identity as a solo artist. Instead of replicating his reggae-tinged Police style, he ventured into new realms, hiring top drawer American jazz musicians like Branford Marsalis, Kenny Kirkland and drum monster Omar Hakim to accompany him on the kind of harmonically ...

| | Oh My God Interrogations And Confessions CD (2003)
Best Of Annette music CDs
$11.19 On 2002's Action Album!, Oh My God dangled the ends of lyrics over scary precipices dropping between bass, drum, and organ. The approach heightened the album's tense, arty quake, but it was at the expense of accessibility (and, occasionally, listenability). Interrogations and Confessions (NoVo/Lightyear) wisely stresses songcraft over the avant-garde. But it doesn't shortchange the crackling kinetics that have always traveled between the trio's serrated iron triangle. Grooves bleed easily and oddly from the die-cut song patterns. But even when it is strikingly melodic, the album flirts merrily with disquiet. "Unbearable Pageant" and "Pearls of Wisdom" both work the chasm between organist Iguana and drummer Bish, filling in spots with blisteringly cool squelch, while the dark gaps still cut deep. Overhead floats vocalist/bassist Bill O'Neill, doing the robot-on-elastic-tightrope, and enticing you to join him. That's the great thing about Interrogations -- it's just as dangerous as Oh My God's previous, weirder work. But, like Spoon, the band has refined its formula to fit instrumental freakouts and shards of vocals ...
| | Zombies As Far As I Can See... CD (2004)
Best Of Annette songs
$9.09 As Far As I Can See..., the first Zombies record in over 30 years, is a disappointment on many levels. No one in his right mind would expect the record to be as wonderful as Odessey & Oracle or any of the group's early recordings, but it doesn't seem too much to expect the record to be as good as a 2004 Elton John or Brian ...
