A couple of college kids scouring the sleazy, local red-light district for a stripper for their party make the mistake of visiting the After Dark Club, where a vampiric Grace Jones is the marquee talent. Keith, Vic, and A.J., looking for strippers for their next frat party, unfortunately happen upon the only strip joint in town staffed and run by vampires. It isn't long before two of the boys have joined the ranks of the undead, complicating things for their fraternity brothers and their roommates. A kinky, often comedic modern-day vampire tale. Vamp Reviews: "...VAMP is an extremely imaginative horror film styled as jet black comedy..."

Classic Vamp pre-dates the string of stripper vampire movies of the 90’s (From Dusk Till Dawn & Bordello of Blood) and it – despite of its obvious flaws – does manage to provide some solid, campy, entertainment. The director Richard Wenck managed to staple together a campy, cult classic that clearly has been an influence on the aforementioned movies. The movie starts out with a couple of fraternity guys who heads into city to find a stripper and they end up at the ’After Dark Club’ which is owned by the nasties vampire you’ll ever come across; Katrina (Grace Jones).
Of course, after Katrina’s little performance (which is stunning by the way) hell breaks lose, and the three guys realize that the girls at the ’After Dark Club’ are not your typical Girls Next Door, so they make an escape with the help of one of the girls who works there Amaretto (Dedee Pfeiffer). One thing (actually two things) stands out in the movie; the stunning lightning, it’s almost shot in a black/white style, but instead Richard Wenck used pink/green lightning to great affect. The other standout is the music: the soundtrack is up to pair with other great vampire movie soundtracks such as: “Fight Night 2” and “The Lost Boys”. The acting in “Vamp” is acceptable. Dedee Pfeiffer (Michelle Pfeiffer’s sister) made her big screen debut in “Vamp”; Chris Makepeace does a good job “Keith”; Robert Rusler makes a funny vampire/ zombie as “A.J” and Gedde Watanabe does a remarkable good and funny job as the nerd “Duncan”.
Grace Jones. Her intro is that of a legend; her pale white skin, a red wig and her deadly eyes makes for a Grace Jones like you’ve never seen before. Grace plays the role of the vampire leader “Katrina” – the role was originally intended for Tina Turner—but they since the part doesn’t have any lines, they needed someone with a strong presence and who could make the role stand on it’s own, without uttering a single word. Grace does however get to show you just how powerful voice she has, during her performance the main theme to “Vamp” is played in which delivers a powerful vocal performance… “I still remember. I still love. I still remember, where I came from…” she sings, which gives a little extra insight on Katrina.
Overall the cast of “Vamp” does a good job, nothing too fancy (but only a fool would expect that from a horror flick).
Extra: Anchor Bay has done a remarkable job digging up old TV Spots and Trailers for the movie. There’s lots of funny stuff as extra, especially the “Behind Footage Scene” where Grace Jones performs her “magic” on director Richard Wenck. The documentary is commented by: Richard Wenck director and stars “Chris Makepeace, Dedee Pfeiffer and Gedde Watanabe. The met up in 2001 to watch and comment on the movie and it’s actually pretty funny hearing about their memories of a 15 years old movie. Dedee Pfeiffer is however a little annoying, she keeps moaning about how insecure she was and how she wouldn’t strip, her vertigo and other annoying stuff, but overall worth a watch. Vamp is a delightfully great movie, its sense of humor is what makes it stand out from other great vampire movies of the decade. When it all comes down to it, “Vamp” is more than adequate to deliver the goods.

$10.29 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO ...
