Reggiani
$11.99 Joao Gilberto is perhaps forever destined to be lesser known to casual jazz fans than his occasional collaborator Stan Getz (whose GETZ/GILBERTO albums introduced the United States to bossa nova) and his ex-wife Astrud Gilberto (whose shy, delicate voice made her one of the most distinctive and beloved jazz vocalists of the '60s). However, true fans of Brazilian music recognize that Gilberto is second only to Antonio Carlos Jobim as a writer and interpreter of traditional Brazilian music and Brazilian-influenced jazz.
These two albums, collected in full on one CD, are among Gilberto's best solo albums. Alternating between standards like "'S Wonderful" or "Besame Mucho" and Brazilian tunes like Jobim's "Wave" and the original "Triste," AMOROSO is a fine, romantic jazz album. BRASIL, as the title suggests, consists of six traditional-style ...
| | Eros Ramazzotti Eros (Italian) CD (1997) Italian
Reggiani
$9.05 The Italian version of EROS contains 2 songs that do not appear on the Spanish version. It also contains 8 songs that are completely re-recorded.
At the height of his popularity, after establishing a fan base for himself across much of Western Europe as well as parts of the Spanish-language world, Italian singer/songwriter Eros Ramazzotti took some time off during the late '90s and released Eros, a greatest-hits compilation comprised primarily of newly recorded material. The 16-track compilation is comprised of five songs that appear in their original versions, nine that have been newly recorded specifically for this compilation, and two new ones. While the decision to re-record the majority of the inclusions is unusual for a greatest-hits album, Eros ends up being a much more interesting album than it would have been otherwise. The nine songs that are re-recorded are the early hits of Ramazzotti, namely "Terra Promesa" (originally released in 1984), "Una Storia Importante" (1985), "Adesso Tu" (1986), "Ma Che Bello Questo Amore" (1987), "Musica E" (1988), "Se Bastasse una Canzone" (1990), "Cose Della Vita" (1993), and a couple others. The five songs that appear in their original versions are ...
| | Feet Of Flames CD (1999)
Reggiani
$11.35 Michael Flatley is one of the top dancers and choreographers in modern performing arts. Lord of the Dance rivals Bill Whelan's Riverdance as one of the top dance phenomena of the '90s. Feet of Flames is also an important dance event of that decade. It matches Flatley with Ronan Hardiman again. As an event, it loses much in the translation to CD, but the music is beautiful and diverse. Hardiman covers many different styles and genres, including Celtic, new age, orchestral, contemporary vocal, and atmospheric ambient. It is an entertaining listen but more worthy of a visual experience. The disc will appeal to fans of the aforementioned discs by Flatley & Hardiman and by Whelan. ~ Jim Brenholts
"Feet Of Flames" was the hugely successful follow up to "Lord Of The Dance" and brought Michael Flatley worldwide renown and popularity. ...
| | Antonio Carlos Jobim Passarim CD (1987)
Reggiani
$12.35 Passarim is Jobim's major statement of the '80s, emerging during a time when Jobim's concerns were turning increasingly toward Planet Earth issues. The title song is one of Jobim's most haunting creations, a cry of pain about the the destruction of the Brazilian rainforest that resonates in the memory for hours. Also, by this time Jobim had resumed touring with a large group containing friends and family, and they carry a great deal of the load here, with lots of airy female backup vocals, two worthy songs by ...

A large part of his project, as heard on SILK ROAD JOURNEYS: BEYOND THE HORIZON, is to fuse the meticulous arrangements and intellectual rigor of Western classical music with the traditional music of other cultures. BEYOND ...

| | Lisa Pertillar Brevard In Praise Of Ancestors CD (2004) (Import)
Reggiani
$13.75 Armed with a voice called "glorious" and "angelic," Lisa Pertillar (pronounced, "per-TILL-er") Brevard specializes in a cappella singing blending gospel and jazz elements, letting listeners into her world. Her honest expressions of self-styled African-American spirituals have led loyal listeners to call her "Songbird" and "Nightingale." Brevard's works in English and Spanish bridge African-American, Latin American and American Indian cultures, and range from scholarly essays to poetry, songs, lyrics and fiction (short and long forms). Her first volumes of poetry were published in 2004: Louisiana Dawn: Poems of a Grafted Life (a paperback book) and (The Amplified) Louisiana Dawn: Poems of a Grafted Life (a CD Audio Book featuring poems and music written and performed by the author). A member of ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), Brevard's songs and lyrics are published by Monarch Baby Publishing.www.blackbutterflyrecords.com/Monarch_Baby_Publishing.htmlLisa Pertillar Brevard's debut spoken word/music CD, "In Praise of Ancestors," was released by her own Black Butterfly Records (www.blackbutterflyrecords.com) in 2004. Says Brevard, "In Praise Of Ancestors honors those who came before, whose guiding spirits look over our shoulders to make sure that we are giving our best selves to this life." Brevard describes working on the CD as a "healing process; a way of coping with the loss of my parents." She hopes that the words and melodies of In Praise Of Ancestors may help listeners cope with the loss of loved ones. She is also at work on her first novel. ...
