A hillarious tale of medieval time travel and 21st century magic the whole family will enjoy. A wizard is solicited to undo a black magic spell believed to have caused the death of Count Thibault's bride-to-be. As the magic goes awry and transports the 12th century nobleman and his servant to 21st century Chicago, the two must figure a way back to their own time. French writer-director Jean-Marie Poiré retools his 1993 European box-office hit comedy, LES VISITEURS, with the two original stars, Jean Reno (THE PROFESSIONAL) and Christian Clavier (who co-wrote both films and is France's answer to Jim Carrey) reprising their roles. On the eve of his wedding, 12th Century knight Count Thibault of Malfete (Reno), mistakenly kills his beloved Princess Rosalind (Christina Applegate), while under an evil spell. Grief-stricken, Thibault enlists a wizard (Malcolm McDowell) to send him back in time to avert the murder. When the wizard's potion malfunctions, Thibault and his faithful servant, André (Clavier) are deposited in 21st Century Chicago, where they meet museum curator Julia Malfete (Applegate), who is the living image of Rosalind. Believing Thibault to be an eccentric cousin, Julia takes the bewildered Frenchmen home, where they encounter (and destroy) a vast array of modern conveniences. Desperate to return to his proper time, Thibault enlists Julia's help against the wishes of her controlling, money-hungry fiancé, Hunter (Matthew Ross). Meanwhile, André falls for a pretty, free-spirited gardener, Angelique (Tara Reid). This slapstick, fish-out-of-water comedy-fantasy introduces American audiences to one of the French film industry's most successful writer-director-comedian teams. Theatrical release: April 6, 2001. funny, but not a paradigm altering experience ....
i saw this in the theatres when it was there (i can't remember when); totally worth the $10 ad. price. i've been following jean reno's career since i saw "leon", and this movie afforded a different perspective on someone i would call a consumate actor. most of his films show a dark and brooding reno, where the stakes are high and the body counts are higher. this is light-hearted and jovial; a real treat to see him show himself in that kind of light. the story isn't all that it could be (all fluff), but great for kids, and a little social conscience thrown in for good measure. all in all: fun and good for a laugh.
p.s. - check out "crimson river", reno's newest N.A. release - back to dark and brooding - great suspence/mystery film.

This movie is a repeat/copy of the original hit : Les Visiteurs, with the same plot, mostly the same actors in similar roles, and a similar setting , i.e. a 12th Century knight is accidentally transported to modern times. Okay, there's a laugh or two, but the French version is much, much funnier. Jean Reno and Christian Clavier are in both, but Valerie Lemercier is not, and she makes the French version hilarious, as the airhead Countess Beatrice. It's okay, but if u want to really laugh, see "Les Visiteurs" first. Les Visiteurs is also titled The Visitors, just make sure it is the comedy with Jean Reno in the main role. I have watched Les Visiteurs about 40 times, and still laugh, and I've watched Just Visiting twice and found it dull both times.

Christina Applegate is shooting herself in the foot making bad movies like this one.She's too good of an actress to be making movies this bad.

JUST VISITING is one very funny fish-out-of-water comedy the whole family will enjoy. It's 12th century France and Count Thibault of Malfete (Jean Reno, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE) finds his beautiful bride-to-be (Christina Applegate, TV's JESSE) done in by malevolent magic. So he and his loyal servant Andre (Christian Clavier, LES VISITEURS) request the help of a local wizard to right the wrong and bring his beloved back. But the wizardry goes awry and the pair is transported to 21st century Chicago where they meet Thibault's descendant Julia (Applegate) and her scheming fiance. With their timeless values of honor and courage, they wreak hilarious havoc as they foil diabolical plots in modern-day Chicago and try to find their way back home.
