Closed Captioned; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles Hoping to travel back in time to right an accidental slaying, a 12th-century knight and his bumbling squire are instead sent 900 years into the future. Once they get their 20th-century bearings, they set out to reclaim their castle (now a luxury hotel) and to figure out how to return to their own era - but the newly liberated serf may not want to return. This hilarious comedy became the highest grossing comedy of all time in France. This film was incredibly popular in France; at one point, over 20,000 people a day attended a screening.
Screenwriter/actor Christian Clavier and actress Valérie Lemercier both appeared onstage in French vaudeville -- a form which, unlike its American counterpart, is alive and thriving. Much of the film's material derives from this tradition.
Other production companies: Amigo Productions (France) and Alpilles Productions (France). The region of Languedoc-Roussillon in France also contributed financially to the production.
Running time 107 minutes.
Rated BBFC 15 by the British Board of Film Classification. Visitors Reviews: "...THE VISITORS is resounding proof that it is still possible to conjure up a hilarious, ingenious, mainstream entertainment with the utmost sophistication and perception..."
-- Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times "...[A] charming and chilling tale....VISITEURS raises many questions about the meanings, and priorities, of love....It does so with beautiful language and exquisite acting..."
-- Andrew Patner, Chicago Sun-Times

Visitors Movie Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Correction to previous entry This, the French version, is 5 Stars. The American version I mentioned previously is "Just Visiting" with Christina Applegate, and I give it only 2 stars.
There is also Les Visiteurs 2 : Les Colours du Tiemps (?), which is also funny. Submitted by richtxn (Texarkana, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Funniest movie in some time I still watch it and laugh so hard at the 3 main characters. Valerie Lemercier really makes the movie work, and she should have gotten an award (if she didn't), in her role as Countess Beatrice. Of course Jean Reno and Christian Clavier are good, too.
There is a cheap American copy, "The Visitors" which is not very funny. See my review of "The Visitors", at this same web site, for more.

Good even with Subtitles It was a good comedy. Having to read through the subtitles was not pleasant but it was worth it. Much better than the American version. Submitted by a reviewer (Two Rivers AK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The most hillarious French movie! You don't have to know French to love this movie! It is entertaining in a new and fresh way. Idiotic, bizarre and satirical. I highly recommend it for a fun time. Not so suitable for children, who do not understand the concept of humor and voilence in the same script! Submitted by a reviewer (Atlanta, GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
French Slapstick like you'll never see again! This is the first movie I saw in France at the beginning of my 6 year adventure there. I was a little unsure if a night at the movies would be much fun for me because my French was so poor, and my previous French film experiences were of films with a meandering plot, deep characters, lots of dark dialogue and an unhappy, realistic ending. But - I knew that I had to start somewhere.
I hadn't laughed aloud so much in a theatre in a long time. This obtuse "Airplane" style film caught me off guard. THE NULLS - the comedy troupe that stars in the film have a great reputation and were all in great form! Jean Reno, who is one of my favorite actors of all time, is in rare form here. Hard to believe when I see his other works, like the PROFESSIONAL, that he can swing to such acting extremes.
Don't buy this movie if you are looking for some dark, painful voyage into the French psyche. Buy it if you are looking for a light-hearted, psycho-spoof on slasher movies.

Visitors DVD The Visitors
This outrageous time-travel comedy follows the misadventures of a wacky medieval knight (Jean Reno -- MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, THE PROFESSIONAL) and his faithful servant when they suddenly find themselves zapped into the present day! Mayhem rules as these 12th-century visitors try adapting to the wildly confusing modern world! To avoid being stuck here for good, however, they soon begin an all-out cosmic assault on their former castle -- now a luxury hotel -- in their quest to return to the past. $7.45 French writer-director Jean-Marie Poiré retools his 1993 European box-office hit comedy, LES VISITEURS, with the two original stars, Jean Reno (THE PROFESSIONAL) and Christian Clavier (who co-wrote both films and is France's answer to Jim Carrey) reprising their roles. On the eve of his wedding, 12th Century knight Count Thibault of Malfete (Reno), mistakenly kills his beloved Princess Rosalind (Christina Applegate), while under an evil spell. Grief-stricken, Thibault enlists a wizard (Malcolm McDowell) to send him back in time to avert the murder. When the wizard's potion malfunctions, ...
| | Blackfoot Siogo CD (1983)
Visitors review
$10.49 Blackfoot was always the heaviest of the great Southern rock movement, and on Siogo(reputedly either a Native American word for "closeness" or a crude groupie acronym, probably the latter) the boys try to break into the metal market and regain their brief hold on American audiences. Staunch metallists will recognize the touch of producer Al Nalli (from Axe's similarly excellent Nemesis) and a new bit of European muscle from Uriah Heep's Ken Hensley on the keyboards. Although cliched throughout, powerful performances send openers "Send Me an Angel," "Run for Cover," and "Drivin' Fool" to lofty hard rock heights. "We're Goin' Down" nips the riff from "Double Vision," while "Goin' in Circles" and the micro-hit "Teenage Idol" thunder like late Rainbow. "Heart's Grown Cold" treats the Nazareth dirge like a lost classic, and virtually transforms it into one as a result (The next and basically last Blackfoot burner, Vertical Smiles, houses another Nazareth standard in "Morning Dew," as well as the lost ...
| | Blackfoot Highway Song: Live CD (1982)
Visitors DVD
$10.49 Like their Native American ancestors before them, the members of Blackfoot must have known what it felt like to be exiled from their homeland. Only, rather than being forced into an Indian reservation, the world's first all-Native American hard rock band found itself trying to scrape together a good wage across the pond, where U.K. audiences couldn't seem to get enough of its uniquely metallic, Skynyrd-derived Southern rock. Despite experiencing diminishing returns in the good ol' U.S. of A., all three of their studio albums for Atco had been warmly embraced here, leading to nearly two years of incessant touring. Such acclaim eventually led to demands for a live album, which the band duly recorded with the help of the Rolling Stones' mobile studio during a three-month jaunt across the British Isles in 1982. Named Highway Song Live after the band's biggest (and most "Freebird"-like) hit, it was recorded in the spirit of the classic live albums of the '70s, with explosive performances of such Blackfoot favorites as "Road Fever," "Every Man Should Know (Queenie)," "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme," and the title track. Additional highlights include a couple of supercharged blues numbers ("Rollin' and Tumblin'," "Trouble in Mind") and ...
| | Blackfoot Vertical Smiles CD (1984)
Visitors movie DVD
$10.49 Although they'd managed to become bona fide second-division stars in England, where their incomparably heavy brand of Southern rock and devastating live performances had thrilled nostalgic Skynyrd disciples and open-minded metalheads alike, Blackfoot had made dispiritingly little commercial headway in their own backyard: the American market. So as pressure mounted to deliver a hit for their label, Atco, Rickey Medlocke decided to invite former Uriah Heep keyboard player Ken Hensley to join the band -- a calculated move intended to modernize the group's sound for the synth-happy 1980s. But 1983's Siogo, though seemingly a passable compromise, still failed to yield any hits, so Blackfoot were literally put on notice prior to getting to work on their next effort, which was rejected upon initial delivery under the working title of Cry of the Banshee. The band was ordered back into the studio to try again, only without founding second guitarist Charlie Hargrett, who had quit under duress after being fingered as the scapegoat for all of the band's problems (including looking old playing "old-fashioned"-like...OK?). The resulting Vertical Smiles was finally ...

$9.29 Music video director Dave Meyers's debut film is an updated version of the 1986 shocker of the same name, featuring Sean Bean (THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy) in the title role of a chillingly sadistic hitchhiker. Twenty-something couple Grace (a mini-skirted Sophia Bush from ONE TREE HILL) and Jim (Zachary Knighton) embark on a road trip across the American Southwest to meet up with Grace's friends on vacation. Things get off to a bad start when they almost run over a hitchhiker in the middle of a rainstorm, and then leave him to fend ...
