Bookends album for sale Product Description
Bookends album for sale by Simon & Garfunkel was released Aug 21, 2001 on the Sony Music label. Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24 karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box. Simon & Garfunkel quietly slipped Bookends, their fourth album, into the bins with a whisper in March 1968. They are equal collaborators with producer/engineer Roy Halee in a multivalently layered song cycle observing the confusion of those seeking an elusive American Dream, wistfully reflecting on innocence lost forever to the cold winds of change. Bookends CD music contains a single disc with 14 songs. ...See Full Description

1 of the best of all times Too bad these two did not stay together for at least one more album after Bridge Over Troubled Water. There's talk of a reunion... too late, they screwed up. 'How terribly strange to be 70... ? They are both approaching 70 and can only feel the shame and remorse for having squandered a great opportunity to produce more wonderful music as exemplified in the 5 Simon and Garfunkel albums... shame on them! Maybe in another lifetime... ? By faust8577 (Lorraine, Que. Canada)
Marvellous I'm not a S&G fanatic, but this cd is marvellous. You just can't explain, you gotta get it and see it for yourself. By zl177 (Italy)
what a reminder This reminds me of what once was. There aren't enough stars on the planet to give to this masterpiece. Might just be the best and most poignant album ever. Doug. By doug (canada)
The peak of the self-contained unit No one could conceive that Simon & Garfunkel could top the romantic and medieval atmosphere of "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme", but they did it here. However, instead of being personal, they took a look at our culture and picked it apart, finding the dark and harsh elements to exhibit in their writing. The result is something that would have toppled the songwriter's era in the early 1970's, if the group continued. Another thing that is interesting about this album is that the last vestiges of songwriting from Paul Simon's period in England have almost vanished, and are replaced by fresher, more original material. Also, the sparse, simple and ethereal production has been taken to an art form on this album, with often only one instrument or two accompanying the voices sounding like a full orchestra. Absolutely an amazing album, and one that is far better than "Bridge Over Troubled Water", even though it didn't reach those heights of popularity. By Galen (Anchorage, Alaska)
Who was first? Hands down one of the greatest albums ever recorded (one of the first concept albums). But can anyone tell me who used "Ku Ku Ka Choo" first? John Lennon in "I am the Walrus" or Paul Simon in "Mrs. Robinson"? By budnell (Pineville, Louisiana, USA)
