Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
One of the most glorious launches in history, the title track for the thrice-platinum The Final Countdown is so bombastically brilliant, such glorious garbage, that this nuclear hair assault could only spew from the vacuous '80s. But the full-tilt follow-up "Rock the Night" rules also: "You know it ain't easy/Running out of thrills." "Carrie" comes off a consummate butane ballad. Meanwhile, the rest of the disc packs so much power that Swedish superheroes Europe get away with all the processed pretension. In fact, the lofty ambition of "Danger on the Track," "Ninja," and "Cherokee" (each as tasty as its title) combines with heated drive and hot delivery to meld The Final Countdown into a unique portrait of propulsive prog and a worthy addition to any hard rock collection. This is the story; this is the legend told by Teutonic guitars and predictable keyboards ringing pure and hurtling through each and every convention perfectly. The quintet's big-boy Epic inaugural, The Final Countdown deftly combines the Valhalla victory of Europe's heroic debut with the American poodle pomposity that devoured the band. You could live without The Final Countdown, but why? ~ Doug Stone

But full-tilt follow-up "Rock the Night" rules also: "You know it ain't easy/Running out of thrills." Sure, "Carrie" comes off a consummate butane ballad, but her sales figures account for this reissue. Honestly, the tacked-on carbon-copy live cuts won't change your life (all '80s reissues should have a video) and this is such a brilliant feat without 'em. Final Countdown
$14.65 On nearly all counts, the debut from Los Angeles heavy metal quartet Steeler is an unremarkable, even generic release; but what makes the album important is the presence of Swedish guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen, which marks his official introduction to U.S. audiences. Malmsteen's playing -- which would later gain greater notoriety in the context of Alcatrazz and his own band Rising Force -- was nothing short of a revolution in guitar circles at the time of Steeler's release. While other rock guitarists were still clamoring to figure out Eddie Van Halen's tricks, Malmsteen's shocking virtuosity -- based on classical music as much as rock -- was something for which few were prepared. The story goes that Malmsteen was flown in at the last minute by producer Mike Varney to finish the album after the songs had already been written (by bandleader/lead ...

| | Accept Balls To The Wall CD (1984) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Final Countdown
$6.75 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
With their 1984 release, the pleasantly titled BALLS TO THE WALL, German metallists Accept set their sights on the last frontier the band had yet to conquer--America. Like their contemporaries the Scorpions, who also specialized in hard rock and hailed from Germany, Accept started out as a straight up heavy metal band, but as the '80s wore on, softened their high volume sound with a dose of melody.
While BALLS TO THE WALL introduced Accept to whole new legion of fans stateside, it wasn't the huge US smash they'd hoped for. Still, BALLS remains one of Accept's best releases, spawning the dark yet anthemic title track, as well as the screamalong ditties "London Leatherboys" and "Love Child."
Accept's most notorious album, Balls to the Wall was also their biggest commercial success. Following hot upon the heels of their creative breakthrough, Restless and Wild, you'd also be hard pressed to ...
| | L A Guns L.A. Guns CD (1988) Remastered
Final Countdown
$5.39 Even amidst the already seedy underbelly of the late-'80s L.A. glam metal scene, L.A. Guns were the undisputed bottom-feeders. A ragged collection of outcasts from various other bands (guitarist Tracii Guns was the original "guns" in Guns n' Roses, drummer Steven Riley had recently vacated the stool with shock-kings W.A.S.P., and British vocalist Phil Lewis had done time with London glamsters Girl), they elevated the unrepentant sleaziness and undeniable tackiness of their environment to a new VD-encrusted ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Final Countdown
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go ...
| | Judas Priest Priest... Live! CDs (1978) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Final Countdown
$15.95 Principally recorded at Chipping Norton Studios, Cotswold, England in 1978. Includes liner notes by Judas Priest.
Culled from performances on their mammoth 1986 TURBO tour, Judas Priest's second live album, PRIEST...LIVE! was issued one year later. Including some post-BRITISH STEEL songs, PRIEST...LIVE! doesn't quite measure up to their outstanding earlier live album, 1979's UNLEASHED IN THE EAST, but it has its moments.
Unsurprisingly, plenty of selections from the TURBO album are featured, such as "Out in the Cold," "Turbo Lover," and "Parental Guidance," but "Hot Rockin'," "Don't Go," and several '80s Priest classics are noticeably absent. Still, you can't go wrong with inspired versions of such favorites as "Love Bites," "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll," "Electric Eye," "Living After Midnight," and "You've Got Another Thing Coming."
After the stunning success of 1977's SIN AFTER SIN, Judas Priest offered another exceptional album ...
| | Hawkwind Very Best Of Friends & Relations CD (1982) (Import) Import; Limited Edition
Final Countdown
$15.85 Uncertain as to whether the then-nascent CD market could sustain full reissues of the three-volume Friends and Relations series, Flicknife opted instead to compile the "best" of the three onto a single CD. Fourteen of the original 24 songs made it on and, while one can certainly question the decision that saw Robert Calvert's "Widow Song" and Nik Turner's "Man With the Golden Arm" numbered among the absentees, still the collection was far-reaching enough to satisfy most tastes. As expected, the highlights are those delivered by the artists closest to Hawkwind itself -- saxophonist Nik Turner's Inner City Unit turn in the tremendous "Raj Neesh," Dave Brock delivers "Motherless Children," while five tracks by Hawkwind themselves include the blinding "Valium Ten." ~ Dave Thompson
As befits any band with a career the length of Hawkwind's, the group has a family tree that is truly a marvel. From early bassist Thom Crimble's days in free festival favorites Skin Alley (the first rock band ever to be signed by Stax!) through Lemmy's Motörhead and Nik Turner's Sphinx, Simon House's days with Bowie and Simon King's with Quasar, Hawkwind has a familial finger in so many pies you could fill a baker's shop with them. All of which renders Friends & Relations a dreadfully disappointing trawl through a couple of branches you'd might never have even seen before. Igniting what, at the time of this album's original release, would become a dismaying plethora of collections built around rough live and studio cuts, four of the album's eight tracks are, indeed, rough live and studio cuts, all dating from that confused 1977-1978 period when various permutations of Hawkmen worked beneath such names as the Hawklords and the Sonic Assassins, while the lawyers tried to figure out who owned the actual band's name. "Valium Ten," one of the earliest manifestations of the Swindells/Bainbridge/Brock-led Hawks, is a worthy inclusion, but anybody brought up on the seismic thrust of Space Ritual et al. will be heartily turned off by the rest. Elsewhere, two cuts by Nik Turner's then current outfit, Inner City Unit, capture that band's sprawling charm, but are by no means the best that ICU would ever muster, while two more ...
| | Jethro Tull War Child CD (1974) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Final Countdown
$9.35 Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24 karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
Two years on from the conceptual innovations of THICK AS A BRICK, Tull had learned how to crystallize the creativity of that prog-rock masterpiece and incorporate it into more traditional song structures. Thus, the songs here are full of daunting time signatures and dazzling feats of instrumental derring-do, but all in the context of shorter, more concise composition. There's also a darker edge to things here, as introduced by the tumultuous title cut.
The band's fascination with medieval-sounding themes was also beginning to blossom here, blending with their folk and prog influences. In this sense, WARCHILD can be seen as the template for much of what followed in the Tull catalog. The two best-known songs here represent extremes of the band's sound. "Bungle in the Jungle" is a bit of humorous riffery heavy on the hooks. "Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day" is a poignant, folk-tinged ballad that harks back to THICK AS A BRICK's acoustic passages and ranks among Anderson's finest tunes.
As a return to standard-length songs following two epic-length pieces (Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play), it was inevitable that the material on War Child would lack power. The music was no longer quite able to cover for the obscurity of Jethro Tull's lyrics: the title track is reasonably ...

In 2006, Kublakai dropped the change, a ten-track mixtape that sold out and put him on stages around the Northwest playing local hot-spots like Nectar, Neumos and a sold out Chop Suey. “On The Basics' opening, Koobles comes out swinging ...
