Comparisons to Sarah Brightman of "Phantom of the Opera" and Celtic vocalists Enya and Loreena McKennitt are inevitable, but Cecilia has a distinctive vocal style that is uniquely her own. Her pure, bell-like voice is beautifully enhanced by the radiant backdrops of collaborator, flutist, and producer Tim Wheater. The program of strong material includes the traditional "Amazing Grace," augmented with whale sounds to create a plaintive prayer for them. Mike Rowland's "Silver Wings" is given a haunting voice by Cecilia with stirring results, and the album closes as it had opened with the Norwegian reading of Grieg's "Solvieg's Song." ~ MusD Voice Of The Feminine Spirit Music | List Price | $18.98 (You save $5.29) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Rock CDs, Latin, Latin Pop, New Age | | Label | White Dove | | Orig Year | 1999 | | All Time Sales Rank | 21669 | | CD Universe Part number | 2042364 | | Catalog number | 400 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | May 11, 1999 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Engineer | Raphael Preston; Nick Hopkins; Raphael Preston; Jim Brumby; Tim Hunt | | Recording Time | 43 minutes | | Personnel | Steve Dawson - trumpet Mark Smith - keyboards, bass Mark Smith - keyboards, bass Chris James - background vocals Tim Wheater - flute, background vocals Gary Thomas - didgeridoo Raphael Preston - 12- string guitar, keyboards, backing vocals Cecilia - vocals Rosalyn Dexter - rain stick

| | David Lindley El Rayo-X CD (1981)
Voice Of The Feminine Spirit
$8.39 By the time David Lindley made his move to a solo career, he was already a legend. Having toured and recorded with such names as Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, and Crosby & Nash, his reputation as a multi-instrumentalist (on almost any stringed instrument) was awesome. Lindley scored a contract with Elektra Records and put together an excellent band that was able to keep up with his eclectic vision. Combining blues, rock & roll, Cajun, Zydeco, Middle Eastern music, and other elements, his debut album is an absolute joy. Lindley's version of "Mercury Blues" became an FM radio staple, and his slide guitar performances on this track alone are easily some of the finest of the decade. There are some wonderfully skewed originals on the record as well, making El Rayo-X one of the greatest rock music albums of its time. Fabulous. ~ Matthew Greenwald By ...

| | Jimmy Cliff Follow My Mind CD (1976) (Import) Netherlands
Voice Of The Feminine Spirit
$12.65 This 1975 release from Reggae performer Jimmy Cliff contains covers of the Bob Marley hits "No Woman No Cry" and "Who Feels It, Knows It." Perhaps more than any other Jamaican singer, Jimmy Cliff always had his sights set on the international market, and while he obviously works from a reggae base, his sound -- featuring full productions often cushioned with strings -- completely defines what has come to be known as reggae-pop. Ironically, given that it was his contemporary Bob Marley who broke through to become reggae's icon, Cliff may not have sounded, in the end, Jamaican enough. Follow My Mind originally came out in 1975 on the heels of the U.S. release of the Harder They Come soundtrack (which featured a quartet of Cliff's finest songs, including the magnificent "Many Rivers to Cross"), and rode Harder's wake onto the lower reaches of the pop charts. But Follow My Mind was a smooth, polished album, with few of the charming rough edges that characterized Cliff's previous work with producer Leslie Kong (who died in 1971, shortly after the ...
