| Elvis Was a Great Singer Talk about walking down memory lane... I grew up with Elvis' music. Listening to songs like That's When You're Heartaches Begin, Old Shep, and so many others was a return to rock's early days, and showcase Elvis' excellence as a singer. | Excellent Romantic Album I'm far from being an Elvis expert but this album would appear to contain most of his romantic numbers. I bought it especially for "Suspicion" which is extremely difficult to find on any other of his albums. By nicholas.rhodes (Paris, France, Europe) |

Only Doo-Wop Collection You'll Ever Need CDs (2005) Top Seller
50 Greatest Love Songs songs Don't let the title fool you; after listening to The Only Doo-Wop Collection You'll Ever Need, you'll definitely want more. This is a good starting point for the curious, since all the basics are here in the original hit versions: "The Great Pretender," "Earth Angel," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight," and, thrown in for good measure, a few tracks that even vocal group scholars wouldn't mind hearing again by the Marvelows, the Duprees, the Jive Five, and the Earls. While this is an excellent primer, the best representation of vocal group harmonies of the era remains the lavish (and pricey) 101-track Doo Wop Box on Rhino. ~ Al Campbell

Elton John Greatest Hits 1970-2002 CDs (2002) Top Seller
50 Greatest Love Songs buy CD music Initial pressings of this first edition contain a bonus disc.
Recorded between 1970 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Paul Gambaccini.
Greatest Hits 1970-2002 is a nearly flawless double-disc set commemorating Elton John's three-decade career. Disc one features what may arguably be John's most essential work: Seeing songs such as "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Candle in the Wind," and "Bennie and the Jets" -- not to mention "Your Song," "Rocket Man," and "Tiny Dancer" -- lined up back to back reaffirms just how diverse, and yet universal, his songwriting talent is. Disc two finds this talent maturing gracefully into the '80s, '90s, and beyond, touching on pop gems like "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," "I'm Still Standing," and "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues" as well as his Lion King classic "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" and the Aida duet "Written in the Stars" with LeAnn Rimes. The collection also finds room for the highlights of his most recent albums, including Made in England's "Believe" and "Blessed," The Big Picture's "Something About the Way You Look Tonight," and Songs from the West Coast's "This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore." For most casual fans, Greatest Hits 1970-2002 will replace the need for collections such as Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits, Vol. 2, and Greatest Hits, Vol. 3, although these collections are still worthwhile as of-their-time retrospectives of John's work. ~ Heather Phares

Pure 60's: The #1 Hits CD (2002) Top Seller
50 Greatest Love Songs album for sale This compilation is just what it says: number one hits on the American charts from the 1960s. It has a leg up on some similar anthologies, though, by virtue of its sheer quantity: 26 songs spanning the entire decade, which is pretty good value for a single CD. While it's true the selection is a little arbitrary, on the whole it's really good, and whether you care about chart statistics or not, it's an excellent disc if you're looking for an all-purpose collection of 1960s pop/rock classics. There are many core classics here, spanning rock, soul, pop, and the British Invasion: the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations," Del Shannon's "Runaway," the Marvelettes' "Please Mr. Postman," Martha & the Vandellas' "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave," Manfred Mann's "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," the Mamas & the Papas' "Monday, Monday," the Lovin' Spoonful's "Summer in the City," the Box Tops' "The Letter," the Troggs' "Wild Thing," the Temptations' "My Girl," and Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." Actually, if there's one complaint, it's that British artists are only represented by those Manfred Mann and Troggs cuts. But even the less-critically canonized, poppy hits here are for the most part indisputable classics: the Turtles' "Happy Together," Tommy James & the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover," the Monkees' "I'm a Believer," the Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Incense and Peppermints," the Association's "Windy," Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe," and more. It's like a double-dozen dose of number one hits from oldies stations without the commercials or any of the clunkers that happened to reach number one by chance. ~ Richie Unterberger
Recorded between 1961 & 1969.

ELV1S: 30 # 1 Hits CD (2002) Top Seller
50 Greatest Love Songs CD music Includes liner notes Peter Guralnick and Ernst Mikael Jorgensen.
Commemorating the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, 30 #1 HITS presents a career-spanning serving of the King's chart-toppers.
Dating back to "Heartbreak Hotel" (which was inspired by a suicide note printed in the Miami Herald), most of these cuts have become indelibly etched into the fabric of pop culture and each has a unique story behind it. "Love Me Tender" has its origins in the Civil War ballad "Aura Lee," "It's Now Or Never" found Elvis Americanizing the Neapolitan ballad "O Sole Mio," and "Wooden Heart" likewise was converted from a German children's song.
This Memphis native's choice of artists to cover was equally intriguing and includes Hollywood legend Al Jolson ("Are You Lonesome Tonight?"), New Orleans soul shouter Smiley Lewis ("One Night"), blues great Big Mama Thornton ("Hound Dog"), and country titan Hank Snow ("[Now And Then There's] A Fool Such As I"). Further testimony of Presley's long-lasting appeal is the inclusion of the JXL Radio Edit Remix of "A Little Less Conversation," a UK #1 that not only enabled Elvis to have more chart-toppers than The Beatles, but also became a hit in a number of other countries including the United States.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

Peace In The Valley: The Complete Gospel Recordings/I'll Be Home For Christmas CDs (2000) Top Seller
50 Greatest Love Songs songs Recorded between 1956 & 1977. Includes liner notes by Cheryl Thurber.
Elvis Presley was and is an American icon, a figure whose impact on the pop music world cannot be overestimated. Before he became a legend, Presley was just a singer, albeit one who got the goods by synthesizing the music of his youth: blues, country music, mainstream pop (Dean Martin was an early favorite of his) and gospel. Southern gospel is a intensely rhythmic devotional music, and that obviously left a powerful impression on the young Elvis (he often sang gospel tunes to warm-up for recording session and concerts).
This box set exclusively collects the gospel songs, old and (then) new, Presley recorded throughout his career, including the "Million Dollar Quartet" session (Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash). This collection is wildly varied: the relaxed, party-like informality of the Quartet session (it was not originally intended for release) and the glossy orchestrated pop of "Only Believe" seem to be poles apart, yet the common ground is the conviction Presley brings to these performances. Other high points: the almost Baroque choral touches on a gently loping take of Johnny Cash's "A Thing Called Love," the spare, haunting "I Asked the Lord," and the near-operatic wail of "Reach Out to Jesus."
PEACE IN THE VALLEY is, without a doubt, the best collection of Elvis Presley's gospel recordings. PEACE IN THE VALLEY includes all the songs from his three gospel albums (HIS HAND IN MINE, HOW GREAT THOU ART, and HE TOUCHED ME), the PEACE IN THE VALLEY EP
Digitally remastered by Dennis Ferrante & Lene Reidel.
Personnel includes: Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, The Jordanaires, The Imperials, The Nashville Edition, J.D. Sumner & The Stamps, The Sweet Inspirations, Kathy Westmoreland, Sherrill Neilsen.
Compilation producers: Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, Roger Semon.
