Photographers: Glen Rose; Ben Pearson . Arrangers: David Hamilton ; Michael W. Smith. On June 1, 2001, a crowd of 9,000 gathered at the Carpenter's Home Church in Lakeland, FL. Drawn by the desire to experience a live worship service lead by singer, songwriter, and Grammy Award winner Michael W. Smith, little did the participants know the grandeur of the night's event. For it was not the presence of Smith, or even choir members such as Amy Grant and Chris Rice, who served as the evening's focus, but the presence of God. Captured on audio, the service comprises Smith's 15th album, Worship, the first of which is purely praise and worship related. The September 2001 Reunion Records release features 11 songs recorded live during the event, joined by two studio bonus tracks. Musically, the project is consistent with Smith's well-loved style. It is upbeat, pop-oriented and includes his trademark piano talents. Opening with the reading of Psalm 57:7, 9-11 by Smith's daughters Emily and Anna, the album features popular worship songs including "The Heart of Worship" and "Draw Me Close." Perhaps the most powerful and moving portion of the project is the sequence of songs beginning with "Above All," a song he performed at the 54th Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, followed by Marie Barnett's "Breathe" and the intense cry of "Let It Rain." Definitely Smith's best album as of 2001, Worship sets itself apart from the onslaught of praise and worship projects released within the CCM market between the years of 1998 and 2001. It is truly an expression of deep desire and hunger for a greater outpouring of God's presence and power. ~ Ashleigh Kittle While Michael W. Smith has made his name in Christian music as a singer-songwriter possessed of prolific abilities, WORSHIP finds him putting down his pen for a moment to sing the songs of others. There's been so much activity in the worship music scene, so many songs written, that even a respected auteur like Smith recognized the need to document s Worship Music | List Price | $17.98 (You save $3.03) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Country CDs, Gospel, Christian, Contemporary Christian Music, Folk, Live Performances, Christian Rock, Enhanced CD, Religion | | Label | Reunion | | Orig Year | 2001 | | All Time Sales Rank | 8076 | | CD Universe Part number | 2046693 | | Catalog number | 10025 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Sep 11, 2001 | | Studio/Live | Live | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Michael W. Recorded at The Sound Kitchen, Laundry Room, Franklin, Tennessee; Air Lyndhurst Studios, London, England. DECLARATION was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. As the United States of America marked the two-week anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, contemporary Christian music saw the release of Steven Curtis Chapman's 12th album simply entitled Declaration. The album's name is taken from the project's song "Declaration of Dependence," in which Chapman proclaims his utter reliance on God. It only seems fitting that a project with the intent of declaring everyone's need, as human beings, for dependence upon the Almighty would be offered in the wake of such tragic and horrific events. The Sparrow Records' project mirrors Chapman's previous three or four albums. It does not necessarily employ the precise styles of acoustic pop and CCM as its predecessors. However, the release reflects his past efforts in that Chapman appears to be re-inventing himself once again without losing the sound listeners have come to expect. With Dependence, Chapman continues to provide upbeat, and at times edgy, tracks that communicate clear messages of faith. Notable songs include the album's first radio single, "Live Out Loud," which reference

WORSHIP AGAIN won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. Certain artists were born to perform praise & worship; Michael W. Smith is one of those. Offering his second consecutive worship disc in a row, Smith has assembled a collection of songs that take the listener on a spiritual journey. Veering away from some of the more traditional praise & worship songs, Smith shines on cuts like "Lord Have Mercy" and "I Can Hear Your Voice" while the more well-known numbers like "Step by Step" and "You Are Holy" are emotionally ...

Audio Remasterer: Rudy Van Gelder. Liner Note Authors: Duke Pearson; Bob Blumenthal. Recording information: Van Gelder Studios, Englewood Cliffs, NJ (07/18/1963/08/09/1963). Photographer: Francis Wolff. Although this Blue Note session (reissued on CD in 1996) is led by trumpeter Johnny Coles, pianist Duke Pearson (who contributed the arrangements and five of the six compositions) really functioned as leader. The typically impressive Blue Note lineup (which includes Leo Wright on alto and flute, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and either Walter Perkins or Pete LaRoca on drums, in addition to Coles and Pearson) handles the obscure material with creative invention. Most memorable are the catchy title cut and the somber ballad "So Sweet My Little Girl." Cole's brittle trumpet is the lead voice throughout, although the young Joe Henderson was already instantly recognizable. ~ Scott Yanow Although this Blue Note session (reissued on CD in 1996) is led by trumpeter Johnny Coles, ...

The historic live Town Hall sessions by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker from 1945 have been discovered on an acetate pressing, and are transferred with digital enhancement to CD. Why this concert was not issued initially is understandable, but Ira Gitler's informative and insightful liner notes suggest they likely were misplaced. What Gitler's essential writing also reveals is that these dates were approximate by only weeks to the original studio recordings of these classics, and there was no small amount of controversy surrounding this revolutionary bebop. Clearly bop was a vehicle for intricate melodic invention followed by lengthy soloing, aspects of which Parker with Gillespie were perfectly suited for. Fact is, the situation surrounding the sonic capture and extended ...

Recording information: Techtronic Laboratories (07/2005-09/2005); Volume 11 Studios (07/2005-09/2005). Daylight Dies celebrated their tenth anniversary in 2006 -- and after all that time, headbangers still had a hard time believing they were an American band. If you conducted a blindfold test and played Dismantling Devotion (which was recorded in 2005 and released in the U.S. in March 2006) for someone who was unfamiliar with this North Carolina outfit, he or she would likely guess, "This must be a European band. They're probably from one of the Scandinavian countries -- or perhaps England or the Netherlands." But no, Daylight Dies is definitely an American band, although Dismantling Devotion certainly sounds like something that would come from one of Europe's melodic death metal combos. This CD favors the gloomier, more goth-minded side of melodic death metal. Many ...

| | Sat Kartar Daily Practice CD (2004)
Worship
$18.95 NOTES Daily Practice is a reference to the 7 chant meditations that are sung/vibrated/practiced in the early hours of the morning by students of Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan) all over the world. The practice of doing this is part of what is called sadhana, a collection of different types of spiritual practices that can include yoga, prayer recitation, breathwork, meditation, chanting, seva, and other practices to elevate, expand, and purify the consciousness. Sadhana is practiced by many different spiritual traditions, and paths, in both the East and the West. Sadhana also means the spiritual work or piece of work a person decides to do. Musically, this particular rendition of these chants is groove driven by the gutsy vocals of Sat Kartar, backed with a world music potpourri of djembe, guitar, bass, tamboura, and temple bells.. This recording happened in an organic manner, similar to the way that musicians in the early days of recording created their records. They would mainly play and tour live, and then record what they had done, almost as an afterthought. Daily Practice producer Dan Charnas, also a yoga teacher, was leading sadhana at Golden Bridge Yoga in Los Angeles, yoga studio of world renowned yoga teacher Gurmukh Kaur, in the fall of 2000, every Friday morning and brought in Sat Kartar, and premier percussionist Joelle Virgil Vierset (Les Groovy Mantras), and for many months, into 2001, created live sadhana chanting, for large groups of enthusiatic sadhana goers. This recording was literally "chanted" into being. BIOSat Kartar Khalsa has been teaching, recording, and performing chant music, devotional and classical kirtan (music sung in call and response style) for 30 years. Her personal journey with these potent spiritual tools was initially orchestrated, in 1971, when she stumbled upon Kundalini and Naad Yoga (Yoga of Sound), Indian classical music, and Sikhism, and became a student of her spiritual teacher, Yogi Bhajan. Her childhood was full of music. Both parents played piano and there was music around of every kind--musicals, standards, and classical music. Sat Kartar played piano at 5, guitar at 14, sang in choirs, and picked out all kinds of music on piano and guitar, from the Beatles, to folkmusic, to Spanish classical "Malaguena". She trained in ballet, and other dance forms. In college, she was gigging, ...
