'Plastic Surgery Disasters / In God We Trust, Inc' is the best selling DK's album. This Manifesto digitally remastered (by original sound engineer) reissue couples their 1982 'Plastic Surgery Disasters' LP with the highly controversial 1981 12 inch EP 'In God We Trust, Inc'. Finally available again and sounding better than ever!

PLASTIC SURGERY DISASTERS: Additional personnel includes: Melissa Webber (spoken vocals); Dave Barrett, Geoffrey Lyall, Bruce Ackely (horns); Ninotchka (background vocals). Producers: Thom Wilson, East Bay Ray, The Dead Kennedys, Geza X. Engineers: Olivier DiCicco, John Cuniberti, Mark Wallner. Recorded at Hyde Street Studios and Mobius Music, San Francisco, California. IN GOD WE TRUST, INC.: Additional personnel includes: Geoffrey Lyall, Ninotchka, Annette, HyJean, Darvon, Siobhan. Producers: Norm, East Bay Ray. Engineer: Oliver DiCicco. This reissue compiles the Dead Kennedys' follow-ups to the hardcore classic Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables: the eight-song EP In God We Trust, and the full-length Plastic Surgery Disasters. If neither record is quite on the same level as Fresh Fruit, they frequently come close; the Kennedys' hyperspeed aggression and Jello Biafra's righteously snotty rants haven't been toned down a bit. The two-fer reissue is an excellent way to dig deeper into the band's catalog. ~ Steve Huey The epic sweep of PLASTIC SURGERY DISASTERS, in both sonic texture and thematic depth, sets it apart as one of punk's most highly evolved musical and artistic statements. Vocalist Jello Biafra's rage had developed into a calmer but more strident kind of anger. Fortified by a wider variety of sounds, including horns, clarinets, and East Bay Ray's rich palette of aggressive guitar textures, this album attacked the usual DK targets. Our bloated, mentally lazy consumer culture is lambasted in the thick, intimidating "Buzzbomb" and the stingingly sarcastic "Winnebago Warrior." Several of society's more insidious archetypes are taken on as well, as in the goofy "Terminal Preppie," and the furious, adrenaline-fueled "Well Paid Scientist." Firmly in place are Biafra's trademark paranoid anti-government diatribes; society's false sense of security is addressed in the breakneck-speed rant of "Government Flu," the far-reaching metaphor of "Trust Your Mechanic," and the angry theatrics of "I Am The Owl."

Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews jELLO IN THE BEGINNING tHE FIRST TWO DK albums were very good. But the history between Jello and the rest of the band is not good news. The last I had heard, Jello had been stripped of his rights to own or produce any music that was put out as the band DK. For this reason I can not support the purchase of this album, as Jello would never recieve a penny. I would start my searh for Great Jello Bucifia albums from 1989 to present, the albums he recorded with other bands is very good, solo is a matter of personal preference for those familiar with Jello and his views, some can seem extreme. I believe owning a cd titled"Last scream of the missing neighbors"Is worth the price alone. And the newest one recorded with the Melvins"Sieg Howdy" is great. Mike. Must own for DK fans! Just the last several tracks from "In God we Trust, Inc." are alone worth the purchase of this album. Jello rocks his political socks off as always and alongside the original line-up for DK. Bummer that everyone except Jello has now sold out but still this is one of the prime albums to own if you're a DK fan. Submitted by lmagnusson (Novato, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Intense lirics with a message Each song takes you to a different scenario in society with all the details but seen from a different angle. Simply a masterpiece!! Submitted by a reviewer (Puerto Rico, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A definitive and sublime punk classic This is a staple in the hardcore punk genre and what I think is the most finely crafted DK album in terms of production. The band maintains its trademark rawness but ups the ante with songs that go deeper and cut like a razor. Bassist Klaus Flouride is one of the main highlights in tracks like "Riot" and "Bleed for Me" and the rest of the bands has raw power like you wouldn't believe! While PSD isn't as good as Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, it has a broader spectum of thought and the addition of the more thrashier "In God We Trust Inc." is a bonus like no other. Great album, and a steal at any price! Submitted by Dino (Sacramento, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
ONE OF THE BEST DUDE! I listened to this CD so much in my CD player, the batteries went dead. This has SO many awesome songs and just PROVES that DK is the best band out there. Submitted by Virus28_Stat22 (Louisville, KY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
