| | Loreena McKennitt A Mediterranean Odyssey CDs (2009)
Mysteries Of Egypt CD music
$19.29 Loreena McKennitt's A MEDITERRANEAN ODYSSEY collection includes an 11-track anthology of her more Mediterranean-influenced works entitled OLIVE AND THE CEDAR, as well as a ten-track live performance recorded in 2009 called FROM ISTANBUL TO ATHENS. McKennitt's transition from Celtic balladeer to worldbeat superstar began in the early '90s with the genre-hopping VISIT. Her penchant for Mediterranean/Far East/Middle Eastern instrumentation came to fruition on 1994's MASK AND MIRROR and 1997's BOOK OF SECRETS, the latter of which spawned her biggest commercial hit "The Mummer's Dance." The bulk of OLIVE AND THE CEDARis made up of material from those three albums. FROM ISTANBUL TO ATHENS mines ...

| | Michael Ross We Finally Meet CD (1995)
Mysteries Of Egypt music CDs
$14.79 Michael Ross released his debut CD "We Finally Meet" in 1992. This CD was embraced by the smooth jazz radio station immediately. It was also released in Japan. We Finally Meet has a very sensuous but exciting touch. Michael Ross captured the mood of each song and he plays with conviction.Born in Chicago IL. and started taking private lesson at the age of thirteen and continued to pursue his craft in music.Later when he was older he began playing in jazz clubs. His music studies enabled him to become a staff musician at the Schubert Theater, performing a number of broadway plays. Michael Ross's sound is sometime compared to the likes of George Benson, but he has distinctly developed his own approach to convey his message in his music. He is someone you must hear.
Personnel: Michael Ross (vocals, drum programming); Michael King Ross (guitar); ...
| | Pale Pacific Rules Are Predictable CD (2005)
Mysteries Of Egypt songs
$7.95 Usually, the best rock & roll songs are those that wear their craft lightly. If the first thing you notice is that the writer must have put tons and tons of thought into the crafting of the song, then what you're witnessing is a failure of craft. But there are exceptions to that rule, and this EP (notwithstanding its title) is one such exception. The Pale Pacific makes pop music that is intelligent, complex, and artsy without sounding in the least bit affected (well, maybe the least bit -- note the Jump, Little Children-style vocal breakdown on "Sucker Punch"), and straightforwardly hooky, even pretty, without sounding in the least bit simple. It's hard to follow the organizational structure of songs like "Identity Theft" and "In the Sun, Pt. 1," but they don't leave you feeling lost, either -- they have some kind of private, internal logic that makes it easy to just relax and enjoy the ride. (This is a stopgap EP; the group's full album, Urgency, includes three of these four songs.) ~ Rick Anderson

| | No Use For A Name Feel Good Record Of The Year CD (2008)
Mysteries Of Egypt album
$6.65 With an unassailable punk rock pedigree earned from over 20 years in the trenches, No Use For a Name could be excused for taking a nice long break, but the journeyman act continues to endure here. THE FEEL GOOD RECORD OF THE YEAR is another in a long line of fine pop-punk LPs, with neither half of the equation neglected. Bittersweet melodies and choruses subtly color otherwise sturdy buzz saws with golden California sun. "I Want to Be Wrong" captures the secret melancholy of the Everly Brothers without resorting to retro costuming, and "Ontario" is a surprisingly beautiful and sad piano ballad that leads into the barn-burning album ender, "Pacific Standard Time". Whoever said that punks couldn't grow old gracefully isn't paying attention to the distinguished traces of silver creeping into No Use For A Name's style.
