The indifferent welcome accorded 1999's SYNCHRONIZED may have thrown British funk outfit Jamiroquai off following the smashing success of 1997'S TRAVELLING WITHOUT MOVING, but the British funk outfit rebounded nicely with 2001's introspective and invigorating A FUNK ODYSSEY. Frontman Jay Kay continues to sound like Stevie Wonder's long-lost son as he mixes in the bossa nova-influenced "Picture Of My Life" with harder-driving fare like the theme-song-looking-for-a-blaxploitation-movie "Main Event."
Stretching out, Jamiroquai also includes other introspective excursions like the folk-tinged "Black Crow" as well as the beautifully spiritual "Corner Of The Earth." Longtime fans need not fear, as moving people's feet remains a big part of the equation, whether it's the Kraftwerk-style breaks of "2001," the infectious house vibe of the first single "Little L," or the bottom-heavy bang of "You Give Me Something." The combination of carefully penned lyrics and unrelenting grooves makes Jamiroquai one of the few contemporary groups cleaving to the P-Funk mantra that if you free your mind, your ass will follow.
Jamiroquai: Jay Kay (vocals); Rob Harris (guitar); Toby Smith (keyboards); Nick Fyffe (bass); Derrick McKenzie (drums); Sola Akingbola (percussion).
Additional personnel: Paul Stoney (programming).

A Funk Odyssey
$7.59 Jamiroquai's debut brings together a utopian worldview, funky '70s R&B influences and the liberated sensibility of England's burgeoning acid-jazz movement. The band, led by singer Jason "Jay" Kay, rides a funky groove while spreading a message of peace, love and environmental conscientiousness. The results of this meeting of heart and head range from Brazilian-flavored instrumentals like "Music Of The Mind" to to songs like "If I Like It, I Do It," on which yesterday's jazzy soul ...

A Funk Odyssey
$9.35 LIVE SESSIONS was recorded live without overdubs in front of a small studio audience.
Granian is back with a solo album by singer/songwriter Garen Gueyikian. Live Sessions, recorded in front of almost 30 dedicated fans and Granian Reps at Water Music Studios in New Jersey is as raw and true as it gets. "It has a lot of energy," says Garen. "It is a combination of relaxed singer/songwriter music with a powerful delivery. I tend to hit the guitar harder than most. I do everything I can to allow emotion to come through in the performance and the song. When playing solo, you have to keep yourself together since you are conveying everything on your own. Groove, timing, performance and professionalism- everything is in your hands." It's these live shows where Garen thrives. "Playing live allows me to make a connection with the audience, to take their energy and feed it into my performance."------------REVIEWS: "This album was recorded in front of 30 fans at Water Music Studios in Hoboken, NJ. So you're not going to get that crappy 'live' sound, but you do get the unedited, first-hand quality that makes up the dynamics of such a happening. Very raw, real and thoughtful stuff."- Music Dishhttp://www.musicdish.com/mag/index.php3?id=8872"This recording has a very personal and inviting sound for a live session. There's none of the production sound and no discussion between tracks, which I more often than not find ...

Sometimes we feel that God has dished out the wrong “script” for our life; we’re reading someone else’s lines, this shouldn’t be happening to me! God would never allow this “stuff” to happen to me or make me suffer in this way! It is easy to feel discouraged when life seems hard or unfair and God seems distant. Many of these songs have been birthed out of very real and very painful life experiences that have touched not only my life but the lives of those closest to me. We don’t always understand ...
