His namesake band, JABE, has won the Abe Oleman Songwriting Award from The Songwriting Hall of Fame as well as Boston Music Awards. Four self-produced, self-released albums along with extensive U.S. and European tours have earned JABE a reputation as one of Boston's best and hardest working live acts. Beyer's side project, The Benders, bloomed into alt-country-bluegrass favorites, embraced nationally by the press and a hardcore fanbase. With great songs and honest-to-the-bone live shows, The Boston Globe hailed JABE as "a leader in the roots music renaissance," and Jam Magazine listed his 2-disc album Drama City at Number 2 in their Best 100 Albums of The Last 10 Years. A multi-instrumentalist, producer and prolific writer, Beyer is releasing his 4th album, Where Are We Going & When Do We Get There on Hi-N-Dry records. With the help of the area's best musicians and mixed by sonic wizard Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, The Pixies), Where Are We Going & When Do We Get There shows that Beyer has grown beyond his cowpunk past and continues to evolve as an inspired songwriter and musician.
Jabe includes: Jabe Beyer (vocals); Jay Aucella (bass); Dave Westner (drums).

| | Joseph Diamond Not Your Typical New Yorker CD (2000)
Outback Country Vampire music CDs
$14.15 The struggle for indie artists to prove themselves to the world at large is great, and this talented piano whiz doubles the difficulty by being a non-Latin trying to break into the wonderful world of Latin jazz. He bolsters his chances by working with Latin-blooded veterans of the genre, like drummer Vince Cherico (Ray Barretto, Paquito D'Rivera), bassist Leo Traversa (Tania Maria, Astrud Gilberto), and Emedin Rivera. Diamond (maybe he should change his name to José Diamante?) proves himself up to the task of taking the Latin audience by storm, simply by being a powerful, well-versed mainstream jazz and Latin player. "Que Rico!" rolls along with booming lower-register chord flourishes, then smooths out as a bebop duet with tenor saxman Drew Francis. Two minutes into the tune, Diamond turns it into a fiesta and Francis starts honking. The title track is all percussive heat from the beginning, with Diamond skipping over a playful percussion groove. Tunes like this and "Cuchifrito" offer a mix of moods, from a loping sense of optimism to more aggressive bursts of energy. "Un Hombre" is a strutting dedication to hometown hero Bernie Williams of the New York Yankees. While no doubt Diamond has the most fun on the party songs, he's also adept at romance ("Little Past Midnight"). Despite the clever album title, it's clear that Diamond is very much a New Yorker in that while born into one culture, he's influenced by the magnificence of another that's always been around him. ~ Jonathan Widran
Not Your Typical New Yorker With the release of Not Your Typical New Yorker, Joseph Diamond - pianist, composer, producer - sees the realization of a long-held dream. Once he had recognized the idea that, "It was about time to do something on my own," Joe pursued his goal with foresight and determination. He rehearsed his band "on and off for a year," while ...

$18.59 An obscure alternative pop group that released three LPs in the mid-'80s, Ptôse was France's answer to the Residents (with a unique yet resolutely French electro-pop touch, in the spirit of Plastic Bertrand and Ludwig von 88). About to reissue the group's catalog on CD, ...

Outback Country Vampire music CDs
$29.79 Recorded in Springsteen's New Jersey bedroom on a 4-track cassette recorder.
As a followup to THE RIVER, a double-album blast of old-time rock and roll, this amazing solo-acoustic folk album came out of nowhere in the fall of 1982. More precisely, it came out of Bruce Springsteen's back pocket. He recorded what would become NEBRASKA at home on a 4-track recorder, intending it as a demo tape for a full-band album. The band versions were recorded, but Springsteen sensed something missing; eventually, he became convinced that his demo tape, which he had carried around in a back pocket of his jeans for several days, had a spiritual wallop that he and the band couldn't recreate. He had the cassette cleaned up ...
