| | Punch Drunk 3 CD
A total of 26 bands, almost all of them playing '77-style punk, fill this thoroughly enjoyable compilation. There's not much in the way of variation here. Practically every act subscribes to the pub-lovin', old-school, Mohawked sound of yore, back when punks threw bottles at longhairs and a haircut was a political statement. The majority of these bands are American acts copying the old British sound and generally doing a fine job of it. No Black Flag, X, the Ramones, or the Stooges influencing anyone here. Instead, it's the Exploited, Cock Sparrer, Stiff Little Fingers, and the Sex Pistols surging through the veins of these mostly third-generation punks. Most of the bands here rip, especially tracks from Workin' Stiffs, the Partisans, Thug Murder, Those Unknown, and Guitar Gangsters. The majority of these bands are not very well-known. Only original English punks the Angelic Upstarts, who are a bit over the hill, are known internationally. But these selected tracks, some unreleased, some from various TKO bands, are generally of high quality, and punk fans of all sorts will dig this compilation and its many undiscovered obscurities. ~ Adam Bregman

It's more than impressive for a punk outfit to last so long -- it's nearly a miracle. Not quite a miraculous collection, Dead Yuppies lacks the immediacy of Agnostic Front's best work. There ...

| | Aquabats Charge!! CD (2005)
Punch Drunk 3
$12.45 The band's most cohesive album to date, blends quirky new wave melodie with the band's hometown signature punk rock sound, concreted with their uniquely sarcastic humor.
Their fanatical cadre will love that Charge!! ends the Aquabats' nearly six-year album drought. But the combo's hiatus has also refocused its musical and ideological attack. Intact are the pop references, zany in-jokes, and Batman villain fetishism. And the album has more exclamation points per syllable than the average lad's mag cover. (One song is simply called "Waterslides!") But Charge!! is much more rewarding musically. It doesn't loiter awkwardly between punk, pop, ska, and broad humor -- it keeps the pressure on with a catchy guitar- and keyboard-driven blend ...

Leonard Cohen's Dear Heather is #2 and the Lenny Bruce Box Set is #5. Literary Kicks, a Brooklyn, New York, based literary operation reviews reVerse. "I've been listening to the CD for a few weeks now and I'm pleased to say it exceeded my expectations and has given me a new perspective on how poetry, performance and music can intersect." -- Cayrn Thurman, Heartbreaking Business Manager of Staggering Genius, LitKicks.com Anne Holub reviews reVerse at subsystence.net "reVerse... begins to show us exactly where words and rhythms have been all along, in poetry." "reVerse reminds us with its mere existence that poetry belongs between our ears and mouths as well as beneath our fingertips."One of the great assets of (reVerse) is that it contains such a great variety of good poetry, music, and their combination. For my taste, the most innovative ones were those where the music grew out, so to speak, from the words, from the rhythm and intonation of the text. Indeed, I am so fond of music inherent in poetry that I did not really mind that, as in some cases, the text was not accompanied by instruments or by other voices.-- John Neubauer, PhD, Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Amsterdam"We love your cd! Punch Drunk 3
$18.95 Mark and Kenny had just flown into New York the day before the recording. Because all the guys had been playing my music for years, we made this recording together in one room. Our close proximity allowed us to play comfortably without headphones and helped us to create a "live" feeling in the studio. With no overdubs possible, the vibe was electric and exciting. These guys were so in sync that we tracked ten of the twelve songs on thefirst day. A million thanks and much respect to ...
