The truth is out there. Evergrey's new album does have strong X-Files leanings. In fact, it is a concept album that deals with alien abduction. Rather than addressing the subject in a cheesy sort of universal mode, though, it is the story of one man's struggle to understand what is happening to him. The lyrics, and the strong delivery by vocalist Tom S. Englund, convey the confusion, fear, and sense of helplessness splendidly. And yes, there is also music. Actually, the music is very strong and powerful progressive metal -- think Queensryche, Iron Maiden, and King Diamond all rolled together. The instrumentation really adds to the storyline. At times it emphasizes, creates drama, and builds tension. The overall picture is that of a very well-crafted concept album that certainly should please fans of progressive metal. ~ Gary Hill

Master Piece!!
This is definitely one of the best rock albums I ever heard, kind of a master piece.....Highly recommended. It's a mix between Testament, Dream Theater and Megadeth.

The new kings of power/progressive metal! When I first got this disc I didn't really know what to expect. When I put it in, I knew from the first few notes I was hooked. Evergrey is the most complete band I have heard in awhile, the style is a perfect mix of progressive and power metal. The guitar work is simply amazing. Not often do you find a album like this that is so technical, but at the same time melodic it sticks in your head hours after the initial listening. The vocals remind me of Fates Warning rather than Gamma Ray, which is a good change of pace, since every new power metal band these days think you have to sing every song in the higher register. The bands lyrics are heartfelt and move with the music, you are sucked into the perfect power/ progressive metal sound scape. Leave your life behind and eter into EVERGREY. At last, a comprehensive collection of everything the group recorded in their "Australian years," from 1963 to 1966, before their move to England and rapid ascent to international stardom. These two CDs -- an entirely different package from the similarly titled, but much shorter, compilation 1963-1966: Birth of Brilliance -- include 63 songs, some of which are quite familiar to Bee Gees fans via numerous reissues, but some of which were hard to find outside of Australia, or indeed anywhere. Actually, this turns out to be a mixed blessing, since the rarer tracks ...
| | Marcus Printup New Boogaloo CD (2002) (Import) Germany
In Search Of Truth music CDs
$20.39 The title The New Boogaloo has a strong soul-jazz connotation; it makes one think of the type of groove-oriented, R&B-drenched jazz that improvisers like Lou Donaldson, Pucho, Jack McDuff, and Charles Earland provided in the '60s and early '70s. It brings to mind an era in which the soul-jazz organists who were coming out of Philadelphia (the capitol of the Hammond B-3), Chicago, and New York didn't hesitate to let you know that they held Sonny Rollins and the Temptations in equally high regard. Recorded in November 2001, The New Boogaloo is mildly funky retro-bop and does, in fact, recall the '60s. But this hard bop/post-bop effort isn't R&B drenched. Trumpeter Marcus Printup doesn't feature an Earland-like organist, and there are no soul-jazz interpretations of ...
