$14.69 | | Christian Matjias Behind Barres Presents: Music For Modern Dance (With Glenn Bering) CD (2008)
Respighi: Pines Of Rome, Etc / Eiji Oue, Minnesota Orchestra
$28.49 Music for Modern DanceTeachers of Modern Dance who work with recorded music often have to pull class music from a variety of sources. Class preparation time can be impacted when working with so many source discs. In recording Music for Modern Dance, Christian Matjias and Glenn Bering set out to create pieces appropriate for use in a contemporary dance class, but also provide a teaching tool where the teacher would be able to read track titles and quickly find appropriate pieces for their combinations. To assist the teacher, the name of each work on the title card is followed with information on the meter of the work and the length of preparation for each work. As an example, the first track on the disc reads Vesper Lynd - Meter: Slow Two; Preparation: Four 2's Every track on this CD provides this level of information, allowing teachers to quickly find a track to meet their needs. Music for Modern Dance has set out to provide as many offerings as is possible for class. There are a number of slower works which can serve for warm-up, cool-down, or set stretch combinations. There are a selection of works providing metric variety. There is a work in 7, another in 5, a March, a Shuffle, and a selection of 6's - moderate, big, and fast. And of course the variety of duple and triple meter works, in a variety of tempi.....all providing the teacher with material for swings, jumps, combinations across the floor, and choreographic studies. Music for Modern Dance has some of the best audio you'll find anywhere on a dance CD. Recorded at Ann Arbor's Solid Sound Studios by Rob Martens, the producer behind the very successful Behind Barres series of ballet CD's and DVD's, this collection has a sound quality unlike any you've heard before. Whether you run your class music from a CD, an iPod, or your laptop, you'll find the audio quality to be without compare. This is a great collection for dance teachers, bodywork professionals, dance students (this makes a great warm-up disc), and those looking for a different sound in their studio work. Christian Matjias is one of the leading Dance / Music Specialists in the field, and an Associate Professor of Dance and Music at the University of Michigan. A native of Los Angeles, he attended the University of Southern California, earning degrees in Harpsichord and Early Music Performance, with secondary studies in Conducting. Intending to become a vocal accompanist and opera repetiteur, he instead became one of the most active dance musicians in Southern California prior his 1991 move to Michigan. As both performer and scholar, he is sought out by dancers across fields seeking to collaborate on choreography, technique classes, in addition to consulting on musical matters as relates to the staging of classical ballets. He has worked with, among others, the Balanchine Trust, Balanchine Foundation, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theatre of Harlem, TUDance, Leopold Dance Group, and has played for Maria Tallchief, Edward Villella, Eliot Feld, Gail Gilbert, and numerous dancers ...
