Survivor album
$7.59 Replacing singer Dave Bickler with former Cobra vocalist Jimi Jamison paid off for Survivor, giving them three Top 20 singles from Jamison's debut on 1984's Vital Signs. His high harmonies, added to the group's well-maintained keyboard/guitar style, threw them into the ring with bands like Styx and Foreigner. Both "High on You" and "I Can't Hold Back" are built on congenial rock charm with an AOR dressiness, using the synthesizer to guide Jamison's energetic singing. Along the same lines as Journey's "Open Arms," the delicate but sternly sung ballad "The Search Is Over" gave them a number four single in May of 1985, bettered only by the number two placing of "Burning Heart" from the Rocky IV soundtrack a year later. Outside of the singles, the other songs on Vital Signs keep up with the band's effective formula, a much better effort than 1983's Caught in the Game, which lacked both enthusiasm and rock magnetism. Though a hits package from Survivor would cover most essentials, Vital Signs works best as the band's most spirited studio release. ~ Mike ...
| | Survivor Eye Of The Tiger CD (1982)
Survivor CD music
$6.75 Survivor's 1982 album EYE OF THE TIGER features more of the same melodic rockers, as well as power ballads such as "Feels Like Love" and "I'm Not That Man Anymore." But having finally obtained massive breakthrough success, singer Dave Bickler surprisingly quit the band a year later, to be replaced by Jimi Jamison.
It would have been impossible to have been in America and not have heard Survivor's triumphant anthem "Eye of the Tiger" blaring from a radio or from MTV at some point in 1982. After a pair of albums that failed to light up the charts (1979's self-titled debut and 1981's PREMONITION), macho actor Sylvester Stallone asked the unknown band to pen the title song to his forthcoming third installment of the ROCKY movie series. Both the movie and the song went hand in hand, and they both became monster hits.

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Survivor album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that's topped only by Ron Wood's reappearance on a finale of the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday." VH1 PRESENTS THE CORRS LIVE IN DUBLIN is a fine mix of the band's greatest hits with a few well-chosen covers, which will doubtless reach out to new fans and longtime Corrs aficionados alike.
Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002.

Survivor CD music
$29.69 Troma's classic teen gross-out trilogy, chock-full of sex, violence, and gore, is now available as a box set. Tromaville High is much like any other high school, except that it lies downhill from a leaky nuclear plant, which is beginning to produce all kinds of problems for the students. In the original flick, the honor society has turned into a bunch of cretins, and they sell the wholesome Warren and Chrissy some radioactive weed. The chaste pair soon lose their inhibitions, and the fruit of their coupling is a fearsome mutant. In the sequel, our hero Roger is in love with a subhumanoid, who spurns him due to his body odor. Meanwhile evil mouths take up residence in people's stomachs, and embark on a rampage of Tromaville. Finally, in Part Three, Roger's son has inherited his B.O. problem, and also discovers that he has a twin ...
| | John Coltrane Live In Japan CDs (1991) Boxed Set
Survivor music CDs
$38.79 Recorded live at Shinjuku Kosei Nenkin Hall and Sankei Hall, Tokyo, Japan on July 11 & 22, 1966. Includes liner notes by Alice Coltrane, Michael Cuscuna and Masamichi Okazaki
Disc 3 was previously released in the U.S. as LIVE IN JAPAN, all other material is previously unreleased in this country.
The 1966 Japanese tour of John Coltrane and his quintet of Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane, Jimmy Garrison and Rashied Ali marked not only the jazz master's only visit to the country but the advent of his provocative, challenging avant-garde work. Taken from two Tokyo radio concerts, JOHN COLTRANE LIVE IN JAPAN captures the freeform, kinetic performances of the saxophonist with the jagged accompaniment of this quintet; a striking visceral adjustment from Coltrane's usual quartet of McCoy Tyner, Garrison and Elvin Jones.
This is probably not the place for Coltrane newcomers to begin; the recordings are demanding since basic rhythmic structure soon gives way to what may sound to untrained ears like cacophony, rather than an intense, emotional dialogue between musicians. The solid firmament of such Coltrane recordings as A LOVE SUPREME or GIANT STEPS are better introductions to the man's oeuvre. On LIVE IN JAPAN, hour and half-hour long jams like "Peace on Earth" and "Crescent" spiral off into bold, transcendental exchanges, breaking from established rhythms to free-spirited playing. Even the Coltrane staple "My Favorite Things" is deconstructed into an hour-long frenzy of abstract expressionism. A fascinating addition to Coltrane's remarkable catalogue, ...

Survivor CD music
$9.29 "We arent trying to reinvent the wheel. We are just playing the music we love the best we possibly can," states Interns bassist Tony Hartman.Since their inception in February of 1999, The Interns have matured and evolved into one of Cleveland, Ohio's prominent rock groups, logging tens of thousands of touring miles, performing for two consecutive years on the Vans Warped Tour and establishing a very reputable local and regional fan base. That is quite a list of accomplishments for a group of twenty-somethings hailing from a town with one traffic light. The self-titled CD EP The Interns successfully combines loud rock with true pop sensibilities. Recommended for fans of Jimmy Eat World, The Get Up Kids and The Replacements, the disc is power pop perfection. The Interns musical progression can be credited to their active tour schedule. Having played 100 plus dates per year for the past two years, The Interns have been fortunate to share the stage with the likes of Taking Back Sunday, The Ataris, Homegrown, The Lawrence Arms and Brand New.At just under 20 minutes running time, The Interns debut offering is a great introduction to a band that is sure to make some noise in the indie music world. Originally self-released in June 2004 and now re-released by Nice Guy Records.

| | Brides Of Obscurity Extended Play CD (2007)
Survivor songs
$7.89 Having missed Instant Happiness from this Seattle vehicle for singer/songwriter Gary Reynolds, hopefully it's not too late to get in on music often compared to David Bowie, ELO, and the Beatles? Or perhaps Reynolds got tired of comparisons, as there's only a faint aroma of that here. There are devout '60s-isms, still. "Positively Me" can be mistaken for Bacharach & David's 1964 Lou Johnson hit "Always Something There to Remind Me" (let's leave aside dire Naked Eyes, shall we?) and "Bombs Away" and "All Because of You" similarly bounce -- the latter a little like "A Little Help from My Friends." But what this really sounds like is something more mannered by Squeeze a decade later, with a jigger of the Romantics. Kind of like the Minus Five covering Difford & Tilbrook? Not bad, if a bit trad. ~ Jack Rabid
Composer: Gary Reynolds.
