Check Engine's self-titled release has its fine points, but it doesn't strike this writer as that thought-out. It just seems like they kind of got in the studio and went for it. There are times when this raw aesthetic conveys a sense of urgency or immediacy, like in the music of Sonic Youth, Fugazi, or even Iggy & the Stooges, going way back. | | Good Ideas CD (2005)
Mother Earth album
$11.55 I Want My Mommy (Time for Bed)" was the No.1 song XM Kids national satellite radio for 8 weeks in a row!The Movers' debut disc, "Good Ideas," has been named a 2003 Parents' Choice Recommended CD and was named Best Recording for Younger Children by Children's Music Web. Also, the Movers' song "The Medicine Song" was recently a finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition and the song "Toothache" garnered a 2003 Great American Song Honor Award and an honorable mention from the John Lennon Songwriting contest! The Imagination Movers combine pop, hip-hop, rock and world music with educational themes for kids and grownups on their national award winning debut CD "Good Ideas." The Movers sing about healthy eating, separation anxiety, sibling rivalry and other topics that relate to being a little kid, but the group's musical style sounds more like the Beastie Boys than Barney. Movers music is catchy stuff that's just as much fun for parents as it is for little kids. Crowd-pleasing songs include "Time for Bed," an anthem about learning to sleep through the night; "My Favorite Snack," an ode to delicious treats that are actually good for you; and "Toothache," a song about dental hygiene set to an old-school rap beat."In our house and car, 'Good Ideas' is in heavy rotation. Thank-you, Imagination ...
| | Early Hits Of Doris Day, The CD (2002) Import
Mother Earth CD music
$13.25 Another in the unending series of European compilations taking advantage of the continent's 50-year copyright limitation on recordings, Sepia Records' The Early Hits of Doris Day draws without credit or payment from Columbia Records' discs by Day made up to 1951. "Featuring every U.S. chart entry from 1947-51," reads a legend on the back cover, and the selection is as good as the claim. Simply put, the compilers have consulted the 1986 chart book Joel Whitburn's Pop Memories 1890-1954: The History of American Popular Music and presented Day's first 25 chart hits in order as listed there, starting with "Papa, Won't You Dance with Me?," which, according to Whitburn, reached number 21 in a three-week chart appearance ...
